Hoyas, Spanked By Soph Backs, Triumph, 41-O DooIon, DornfeId Run All Over Come, but OutcIossed, Terps Travelling on the twinkling toes of a couple of sophomore backs, Georgetown ran roughshod over Maryland yesterday at College Park, dealing the Terps a 41–0 defeat their worst of the modern series before an assemblage of 1000 fans. 1t was Jack Doolan and Frank Dornfeld who blaZed the trail TO the Hoyas’ third consecutive victory over the neighboring eleven and stretched their string to % games without defeat. Doolan, tearing of 46 and % yard runs for touchdowns. and Dornfeld ripping off stable gains and punting and passing as If to Guido his widely publicized classmate, were the twin sparkplugs that made the Hoyas click. From the very outset it was APP parent that Maryland was a cooked gosling. but the Old Liners paid scant attention to the tremendous ODDS and pounds of Georgetown beef stacked against them and dug in with a will. Every one of them gave their best, and it simply wasn’t good enough to stem the stampede OF the hustling Hoyas. One of the reasons it wasn’t enough was Joe Murphy’s presence on the bench, where Coach Jack Faber judiciously parked him until the flral period because of a DAM aged ankle. When Lii Joe did move into action it merely was to throw pass, kick the longest punt of the afternoon – SO yards – and run around for exercise. Terps Cross Midfeld Twice. Faber tried to juggle his suua / to equallze the strain on his d. minishing supply of regulars. who have three tough games REMAINING. He succeeded fairly well, for the squad escaped with one serious casualty-an injured knee owned and until about Abs operated by Jc2 Hoopengardner. That was akin tossing a couple of snake-eyes. = well as snake-hips. at the DOVE less Terps. But they needed t. work, and Hagerty kept them CT the run. Maryland came across the 50-va~I stripe only twice during the afte-noon and spent the rest of the e. minutes shooing Hilltoppars away from Its own goal line. The Terms reached Georgetown’s 80 in the sec ono period on a 27-yard pass from Bernie Ulman to Elmer Rigby. and again late in the final stanza when another brace of passes, plus hard running over tackle, brought them ~ yards to Georgetown’s 9. Here the Hoyas dug in and hurled them back to the 20-yard line, where they took the ball on downs. Hoyas Get Under Way, Inc Terps found themselves In pretty much the same predicament as a 3-minute egg almost immediately after the initial kickoff when Bill Wixted spilled Rigby on the 3 after the Old Line safety man took Mike Kopcik’s punt. It gave George town the upper hand in its drivs for the first score, for Rigbys ensuing Kick was returned IA yards to the Y by Lou Checas. Checas and Castlglia quickly moved the ball to the 3, but when Koshlay fumbled (See GEORGETOWN, page B-I31
