And, ironically enough, it was two nativG sons of the Peninsula State, Bill Nowling of St. Peters burg and Buist Warren Of Miami, who played the major roles in the Vols fifth successive victory. For fully two periods the Vols were anything but the team that whipped Duke and Alabama. For a while it appeared that the men of Major Bob Neyland were so amazed by their first closeup of the razzle-dazzle that they would be left at the barrier. Tennessee’s lone drive in h e first half petered out on the Flor ida six but after an intermission chat with the old army officer, they returned with decidedly more dash. After a punt exchange which gave the Vols the ball on Florida’s 48, Nowling, the only sophomore to earn a regular berth, sifted in side left guard and then rambled Iou,p fo11 for the initial ccoro Ike Peel, blocking back, p la C e kicked the extra point. The crowd of about $4,000 then sat up, expecting to see a complete rout of the Gators but the Vols didn’t live up to the expectations. Not until the final period did Tennessee’s offense come to life when Warren, third-string tailback who rates as one of the best pass throwers in the conference, entered the conflict. 4
