Duke, Carolina Picked To Win Saturday Tits New Orleans, Oct. -(NNS)- The bands are still playing Dixie from Cardinals tobacco belt down to Louisiana’s lazy bayous and they may come up with encores again next week. For Southern elevens, paced by Alabama, Louisiana State Duke and Georgia Tech either ruined or soiled spotless ‘scutcheons Of such dignitaries as Fordham, Holy Cross, Col gate and Notre Dame. And this week Tulane gets whack at Fordham, Duke faces Pitt and North Carolina tackles New York University. Alabama’s 7 to 6 victory over Fordham was not shocking, al though even ardent Dixie grid bugs rated the Rams a wee bit better than the Crimson Tide Louisiana States cruching defeat Of Holy Cross on the other hand was altogether I’M expected AS a result of the conquest of Holy Cross, L. S. U. figures to take the Rice Owls into camp on Satur- Rice, 6. / Having shown its ability to han die a tough one ‘Bama will polish its offense against Mercer this week in preparation for the big battle week after next with Tennessee a game which may settle the South eastern conference title. FOrdham will be shooting for revenge against Dixie when it invades Tulane Stadium Saturday and 5O,- 600 fans are likely to be on hand to see the Green Wave roll against the Rams. The Greenies, showing tremendous power which produced touchdown marches Of 81 and Sc yards, beat down Auburn’s stubborn resistance in II to fashion. The Tulane de- Tense limited Auburn to a net gain of 70 yards, Of which only “a were on the ground. So “Red” DaWson’s boys look like they’re ready to stem Fordham’s attack. The Tulane Fordham tilt should be a thriller with Tulane winning by Is to margin Duke, which crushed Colgate, 81 to O, takes on Pitt in another hum dinger and we’re stringing with Wal lace Wade to make the PantherS vince again this season. It looks like a Is to fracas from this distant seat Georgia Tech, which gave Notre Dame a furious tussle before losing, II to IA rests up on Howard, but it can’t relax too much for the Bull dogs held Alabama scoreless for al most three periods. North Carolina is picked to take N. Y. U. by a II to O score, despite the fact the Tarheels were extended to beat Virginia Poly last week. George StirnWeiss, captain and crack passeh, will be back in action against the Violet Vandy, which lost 81 to Is decision to Kentucky, may have trouble getting more than tie with “ M. l. but the Commodores are picked to register in 7 to fashion over the Cadets. The only Southeastern Conference game of the week involves Mississippi State, which added Florida to it’s victims, ii to 0, and Auburn. This should be a great battle, but if Auburn is as tough defensively as it was against Tulane, the Farmers will get their first setback of the vaor Wa’ra nic1Sino AI1h11rn to o.
