This wasn’t a happy day around the walks at George Washington. A jaunty little running. passing and kicking halfback named Vic Sampson has rounded out his college grid career. So have two fine linemen, Guy Renzaglia and Capt. John RebholZ and four other valued cogs in any football team. Their exodus wasn’t even marked by a triumph. On a frozen field, with sleet whipping into their faces, the Colonials closed their season yesterday at Griffith Stadium by taking 7–6 licking from West Virginia. George Washington will miss Sampson, Rebholz and Renzaglia, along with Fred Merka, back, and Izzy Weinberg, Hal Soldering and Bob Faris, linemen, but as Colonial supporters looked to the future today it wasn’t with pessimism. In his first year as head football coach Bill Reinhart. operating with a min iE1um Of reserve strength, turned in two major victories over Colorado and Kansas. These two, in addition to three minor victories, gave G. w record of five wins as against four losses to West Virginia, Bucknell, Mississippi and Clemson. The schedule came close to being the most difficult In town. Richardson Improving Rapidly. AS George Washington looks to next year the figure of Billy Rich ardson, now junior, looms large. Up to now Billy has spent most of the last two sessions playing in the shadow of Sampson. 1t never was practicable for G. w. to play both in the same backfield. owing to their similarity in type. But as this season drew to a close it became apparent that Mr.. Richardson. a heavily built kid who came up from Central High of this city, was ready to challenge Simpsons right to the left halfback job. Richardson came pretty close to being the best back on the field yes terday before a crowd of 5000 shivering souls. He came into the game in the second half and promptly proceeded to tumble the ball the first time he got his hands on it. But at the same time it was Richardson who led the G. w. at tack that netted a touchdown and which kept the customers in their seats until the final whistle. Of his performances recently Billy seems to be the boy around whom Reinhart will build his 1889 attack. Richardson and Johnny Tonkavitch. a sophomore fullback who ran 60 yards for a touchdown against Colorado at Boulder. prom ised yesterday to become a ground gaining pair. G. w. Threatens at Finish. Tonkavitch, after his fine showing against Colorado. went into a slump from which he emerged yesterday, when he punched out important
