.HARvARD’S ATTACK ROUTS YALE, ITO Lateral Passes Responsible for ViCtory-EIi Never Had Chance to Score. YALE BOWL, NEW HAVEN, Conn, November 24.-Johnny Harvard got his gun today and using his lateral pass for ammunition, shelled Eli Yale out of his own bowl with a 17-to-O defeat. Johnny’s gun was loaded from first to last, while the defending home team had nothing with which to shoot. A record-breaking crowd estimated at $4,000. saw the Harvard triumph. The defeat was as bad as it sounds Harvard today was at least two touch downs and field goal better than Yale The Ellis never had chance to score Harvard was on in front with a touchdown in the first period and there was nothing Yale could do about it then or later. A second touchdown in the third period was topped of by a field goal in the fourth. Harvard in troduced E. T. Putnam, ir., a Boston boy, who can kick, to add two points after touchdowns and then kick goal on his own account, high standard of kicking in a foot ball age when kick ing seems to have gone out OF fashion. Take Charge of Bowl Immediately after the victory Harward undergrads and alumni took charge of the Yale Bowl. With red flares light ing the gray shadows of the big field the men of the Crimson Snake danced to the goal posts and began a determined assault on the uprights Set in concrete the enblen1s of supremacy Of fered stubborn resistance, but the posts really had no chance. They were being attacked by men, young and old, who had had no chance to do any tearing up of goal posts in a Yale game since 1922. Swarming like sailors up the rigging of ship the younger men went aloft to attack the posts from above while the older men with red feathers in their caps waited at the bottom for the youngsters to get in their work. The posts finally fell and were carried at the head of a wild parade, in which every one was seeing red. Guarnaccia and French did the bulk of the ball carrying for Harvard, using the lateral pass as the foundation OF the attack. Time after time Guarnaccia or French started on a slow lope toward ITlS SlQe lines Wltn tIl6 Dall uQQ6r Ills arm. AS the Yale man charged at | the ball carrier he was the ball carrier no longer, swapping it to the other member of the lateral pass twins, who was always able to gain some ground. Yale threw all its aces into the fray without avail. Hoben and Garvey, who did not start were rushed in, and al | though Hoben ran a kickoff back to midfield from his 10-yard line and Gar vey gained in a few running plays, Yale spent most of the afternoon so deep in | its own territory that it had no chance to start a drive with hope of sustain ing it. Many Yale Passes. The Yale passes were numerous, but the Harvard backs seemed to have fully as accurate an idea of where they were going as the Yale receivers. | The game ended much as it was played. A Harvard punt was grounded six inches from the Yale goal line, anc the Blue began to throw passes from behind the goal line. Two were ground ed and the third was intercepted by g Crimson back. Harvard took advantage of a Yak lapse to score in the first period Yale kicked off and Harvard punted aftel failing to gain. Yale rushed a frs down and then evidently decided II beat Harvard to the lateral pass. Tht effort was a dismal failure, the bal ! 1T,onfinued on Page 2. Shorts Sectjon)

HARVARD TEAM DEFEATS YALE New Haven. Nov. .26.-(AP)-An alert. woodworking Harvard team Saturday defeated much less able Yale eleven II to 0, the score was a fair approximation in the difference Of ability in the two teams. Harvard used it’s famed. lateral pass to good effect throughout and in Putnam had a player who could kick field goal as we’ll as points after touchdowns. Guarnaccia did the touchdown making for the win ner. Yale never uncovered a serious threat. A messed up pass gave Harvard the ball on Yale’s 40 yard line early in the first period, and the Crimson drove forward from there for a touchdon, Guarnaccia carrying the ball. Putnam kicked goal. The pc Rod ended with the ball on Harwards Is yard line. Score: Harward, Yale O. Yale found the Crimson line hard to crack and turned desperately to kicking and passing but without much success. The ball changed hands repeatedly in kicks or intercepted and was about in the middle Of the field when the half ended, Score: Harvard z; Yale O. Hoeb ran back the kickoff for Yale from his own 10 yard line to midfield where Harvard gained the ball on an intercepted pass. Harward smashed down the field until Guaranaccia went over for his sec ond touchdown. Putnam drop kick ed the extra point. Score: Harvard IA: Yale 0. Yale continued to throw ineffectual passes as the fourth period opened and finally French inteIcented one near midfield. Yale re-. covered the ball few minutes later when Eddy fell on tumble on his own 23-yard line. Later Harvard caught Yale mapping when French dropped back as if to kick, but passed to Putnam who ran to the S-vard line. Then Putnam made a coal from the field.
