HARVARD IN A TIE WITH HOLY CROSS Crimson Is Held Scoreless by Team Which Shows Clever Defense. BY the Associated Press. HARVARD STADIUM, CAMBRIDGE, Mass. November ia stubborn Holy Cross foot ball team, which failed to show the slightest resemblance OF running attack, held Harvard to score less tie here today in game which was marked by exceptional line plays. During the closing minute OF the game Harvard completed 35-yard pass, Guarnaccia to Douglas, and the Grim son had a first down on the Puppies 5-yard line. Three Harvard backs were launched against the Purple line, but cleo O’Donnell’s hard fighting forwards yielded only yards. Dave Guarnaccia, the Crimson’s best bet in the absence of Captain French, who was being saved for next weeks objective game with Yale, was called on to go over for the score. Guarraccia tried to soar over Fitzgerald, who relieved Captain Phelar’ in the center of the Purple lire. He cleared the pivot man, but Clancy, Holy Cross fullback, was waiting just ahead to shove him back. Holy Cross gained the ball on its half-yard marx and Clancy punted we’ll from behind Ills SU04 lll1C tAlC 6o1ilC CA0SN’ Once before, in the very first min ute of play. Harvard had a scoring opportunity but failed to cash in on it. The Purple attack was very weak. It consisted of a series of two line plays, which generally failed, forward pass and a wonderful punt by Clancy on the fourth down. Holy Cross tried 18 passes during the game and COM pleted only 3 of them. The Harvard scoring efforts were almost as unimpressive. With the Yale game but a week hence, Harvards attack was rush, a kick, a rush and kick until the closing minutes of the game. When Putnam returned to relieve Crawford. his substitute at quarter, Harvard then was able to execute lateral pass, which gained 45 yards, and three forward passes which counted for three first downs. Harvard backs kept plugging away at the Purple line but the only time they made any impression was when Phelan, the Holy Cross, leader, became weak from an injury. When he was relieved the Purple line was again strong enough to stop almost every charge,
