PRINCETON SWAMPS HARVARD, “a TOO Tigers Victory, Surprise, Most Decisive in History of Annual Conflict. BY the Associated Press. CAMBRIDGE, Mass, November S. Princeton came back to one of the greatest moments of gridiron glory she has ever known today, and under a Crimson sky sent Harvard down to the most crushing defeat in the Al years of rivalry between these two ancient foes. Out of the depths of mediocrity and disappointment, the Tigers-11 fighting, irresistible junglemen rose to heights of astonishing bruiancy to overwhelm Harvard by score of “a to in one of the most sensational upsets foot ball annals have ever recorded. Banked around the sides of the Harvard Stadium, vast crowd of $4,000 had come in expectation of a Harvard victory, for the Crimson ruled decided pre-game favorite, but, instead, it was thrown into a frenzy by a comeback as spectacular as it was startling and effective. In stead of seeing the vaunted power of Harvard’s attack moving through a Tiger array that had shown little early-season promise, the throng saw the Crimson. after a brief stand for and beaten back by an Orange and Black avalanche. Crimson Is Helpless. After the first period, when Harwards stubborn defense twice thrust back Tiger drives, the Crimson had nothing capable of checking this fierce antagonist, who lashed out with stunning power on all sides and yrif no ;rrI TouchdownS in the second and third periods, and two in the fourth, inter mingled with field goals in the sec ond and fourth periods, represented the toll of Tiger damage. 1t became a rout as the shadows crept over the giant amphitheater, a continual sweep of streaking Orange and Black jerseys over the chalk lines. And when the final whistle blew, Princetons cohorts, already whipped to a frenzied pitch, swept down on the gridiron in a wild out burst of enthusiasm. Around the field the wildly excited mob surged, marching behind a buffeted Prince ton band, and all but uprooted the Crimson goal posts that during the afternoon had seemed an irresistible magnet to Tiger ball carriers. Over the stretch of years since Harvard and Princeton began their rivalry in 1877, no victory has been recorded as decisive as that of today. Only twice before has a score rival ing today’s Tiger total been run up, and on each of these occasions, when Princeton also was triumphant, the margin of victory was not so great. Vy, Uy-fv five years later the Tiger scored Al to Is. Princeton now has margin of Is victories to 9 for Harvard, while ties have figured in the q clashes between them. Out of obscurity, a new Tiger hero came into the fray this afternoon to dominate triumph that has few gridiron parellels. This vital spark in the Princeton dynamo was Ted 21-year-old quarterback, of Stamford, Conn, a product of Mercersburg Academy. Williams Is Hero. Coming into the fray early in the second period when Coach Bill Roper switched to his ’1ightweight” back field, Williams was a flashing figure in the victorious Tiger drive that marked the remainder of the game. Scoring two touchdowns himself. Williams was the outstanding star OF a slashing offensive. He had able support in the brilliant broken field runs of Jake Slagle, the ramming line-drives of Caldwell and Weeks, and the knife-like thrusts of Dignan and Gilligan, behind a line that consistently outcharged the Crimson for wards. 1t was a great moment for Will liams when he left the game toward the close, after plotting his team to an invincible lead. A year ago this youngster, playing his first game against Harvard, came close to turn ing the tide of Tiger defeat when, injected Il few minutes before the final whistle, he tore off 30yard run. That day. however, his opportunity came too late and Harvard won; but this afternoon he came into his own. Handed the inspired driving power that seemed to come to life in the Tigers after long period of dormancy, Williams got the most out of it in a manner that stamped CONTINUED on Page 2, Column ~

HARVARD CRUSHED BY VI BRILLIANT TIGER CLAN Princeton Rises To One Of Greatest Moments Of Gridiron Glory, Winning $40 fore the final whistle, he tore off a 3O-yard run. That day, however, his opportunity came too late and Harvard won, but this afternoon he came into his own. Handed the inspired driving power that seemed to come to life in the Tigers after long period of dor nancy, Williams got the most out of it in manner that stamped him as one of Princeton’s greatest gridiron generals. Tigers Have Everything Princeton had everything today. Out chasing Harvard in every department of play, the Tiger showed no re- semblnance to the indifferent squad over which Notre Dame ran rough shod two weeks ago. In fact, it seemed that Princeton took a leaf from the Notre Dame book of strategy and did to Harvard what the Hoosiers had done to them. Where the Tigers had shown no of fensive effectiveness before, they were irresistible today, plunging, dynamic force. Where their defense had been spotty, it became impregnable. Where they had shown little versatility. they uncovered dazzling assortment of plays and the fighting spirit which had stood alone as the teams main char acteristic was lost in the smoothe per lection of their play.
