ROCKMEN TURN BACK TORNADO Notre Dame Uses Second Stringers Most Of Time SOUTHBEND, Ind, Nov. 1.-The Golden Tornado of Georgia Tech ‘un-‘ leashed all its fury against Notre Dame in their intersectional gridiron classic but the Rockmen turned it back and for the third successive year defeated the southerners, today by score of 34 to 3. Tech took defeat in glory and left the name of Douglas Wyckoff, it’s driving fullback, emblazoned on the football roll in Notre Dame’s archieves. Wyckoff’s tearing, running, plunging attacks, al- ways in the face of stubborn resistance, was considered the outstanding indi- vidual performance of the game. The final run robbed him of possible sen sational climax, when, after racing Al yards to Notre Dames one-yard line, time was called. Coach Knute K. Rockne started his second string eleven against the Geor- gians. After few moments had elapsed, Wycoff tore off 40 yards in a pretty scamper through the line. The Rockmen frightened but during the first period, Tech gave them memorable struggle. It was here that Williams, left half, after working the ball to No. tre Dame’s 42-yard line, booted beau-s tiful drop-kiek for his teammates only score. Regulars Open Up The Notre Dame regulars opened the second quarter and the the superiority of Rockne’s team exerted itself. Righ. Half Don Miller, receiving a pass from his running mate, Crowley, star of the Princeton encounter, took it over for Notre Dame’s first touchdown. Lay den placed it behind Techs goal for Rockne’s second score, shortly after which second team again took the field. The grilling given Techs warriors be- gan to become apparent and the offense they had shown in the first period started to weaken. Roach, substituting for Crowley, arose as a future star in Norte Dame football when he made pretty run and drive for the second squads first touchdown. He later went over for another. Coach Rockne used nearly 40 men in the game, the complete regular line up at no time being used. LivergoOd, at fullback, showed to good advantage in the final frame, practicing many of Layden’s plays in putting over his touchdown. The lineup and summary: Notre Dame (34) Georgia Tech (3) Position
