ROCKNE’S TEAM SWEEPS ON, B-3 Wisconsin Barely Checks Micks As Backs Run Wild MADISON, Wis, Nov. S.--Notre Dame slashed Wisconsin’s defense to ribbons at Camp Randall this, after noon and defeated the Cardinals, for the first time in five starts, 38 to 3. Previous to todays game Notre Dame had failed to score on Wisconsin. To- day, however, Crossley, Don Miller. Roacha, Layden, Carney and Reese and added points to the teams total. Crowley gave the spectators their greatest thrill when he ran 55 yards through a broken field, dipping away from tackler after tackler, waiting for his interference, and cutting away from danger until Doyle Harmon fought his way through blocking Notre Dame men and stopped him. Run Whips Wisconsin That run broke the hearts of the Wis consin men. The first period had ended and permitted it to remain in the fight ing until Wisconsin forced its way to Notre Dames 15-yard line. At that point Rockne sent in his first-string outfit and, although they were able to hold Wisconsin from scoring . touch- down, Doyle Harmon’s dropkick from the 12-yard line counted. With the first string team on the field, Wisconsin’s defense was wrecked in a slashing attack at ends and slants off tackle, combined with straight smashes into the line and brilliant rnssiDg game. Miller Goes Over The Notre Dame men crowded an other touchdown into this period when a long pass, Stuhldreher to Don Miller, scored touchdown. As the opening of the third period, Crowley flashed his 55-yard run, and a moment later Layden plunged over for a touchdown. The next touchdown came as the result of fine open field running in which Crowley and Don Miller fea- tured, Crowley scoring. In the last period, Rockne sent in a score of sub stitutes who fought the tired Badgers to within striking distance and Roach slipped over with the last touchdown. Blocking Good The outstanding feature of the game was Notre Dame’s blocking. Today’s win was Notre Dame’s first victory over Wisconsin. In 1900 the Badgers won, 54 to 0, in 1904, Wiscon- sin again won, 58 to o, in 1915, Wis consin won again, 54 to 0, and in 1917 the game ended in a scoreless tie.
