MICHIGAN WINS IN GREAT BATTLE BY LONE PLACE KICK Vanderbilt Keeps Her Goal UncroSsed By The Great Michigan Team ANN ARBOR, Mich, Oct. 1S.- Michigan rode to 3 to 0 victory over Vanderbilt on Jack Blott’s toe today, his place kick from the 15- yard line being all that prevented a repetition of last years scoreless tie. Blott was called back from center for the play only after Michigan. getting the ball to Vanderbilt’s sev- en yard line, had lost yardage in two pile driving attempts to pune ture the Vanderbilt defense. It was a narrow margin of victory and indicative of the equality on which the teams battled so valiant ly before the 30,000 spectators. Both played crafty football, the fumbling that tended to mar the game being more than offset by swift, dashing of passes, while the work of linesmen on both sides was at top form. Vanderbilt showed Michigan two of the greatest ends ever seen on a mid-western football fall. Wake field was as elusive as an eel on every play, leading factor in many of the Commodores’ gains and deadly on the defense. Bomar, his mate, on the other end of the line, was scarcely less active. Reese showed aggressive speed but was smothered by the accurate tackling and agility of the Michi- gan linesmen, whose play was note worthy. Never did a line hold better than Michigan’s when the ball was snapped to Uteritz. who took plenty of time to place the ball as Blott came up, to send it straight as an arrow between the goal posts for the games only score. Vanderbilt’s only real scoring chance, came in the final period when the southerners got the ball on tumble. Muirhead ended this scoring chance by crashing through the Vanderbilt line to throw Kuhn for 10-yard loss that made a drop kick impossible. Score by period: Michigan ...... .....0 8 0 0--3 Blott. Referee, McDonald Brown. Um- pire. Springer, Pennsylvania Field judge. Page, Ohio Wesleyan. Head linesman, Finley. Virginia. Time of periods, 15 minutes each.
