Thin Red Line Unable To Hold Georgia Tech Oliver Dashes for Touchdown From Kick of, and Almost Duplicates = Final Score, Tech 33, Alabama ‘ Alabama showed flashes of indt- vidual form this afternoon. but that was about all, Alabama offered ssv- eral thrilling open field runs. but only one counted The Thin Red Line lacked In defensive power. and the Rnswor was Tech ss. Alabama !. But the visitors from Alabama can beast of one thing, and that Is the scares they threw into the Georgia boys. At least three times In one aft ternoon her warriors reeled off from to fifty to B near hundred yards, while Tech men were strung hope lessly about the field. It all proved the Tech defense against kick-off returns and end runs needs consider able jazxing up. The flashy play of the game from the visitors standpoint came when Oliver oought kickoff while stand ing on his five-yard line ana snaheo his way back to the Tech line TOT so yards and a touchdown. Then Wes- tery kicked goal. That’s about all. Tech Stars For Tech, Barron starred. as usual ; McWhorter won his spurs; Hunt was hero and McDonough did We’ll one touchdown went to McDonough rec ord two to Barron, two to Hunt These were all scored in the first two quarters. In the last two quarters neither side scored. Tech, it’s true, put In a number of substitutes, but even at that it was apparent Alabama was doing much better work. Oliver Threatened Oliver made q threat from klck-oll just after Tech had scored her rlrst touchdown, but was halted after ne had snaked his way 50 yards up the field. He threatened twice, once sue eessfully. Tech had no difficulty in scoring in the first two periods, but Alabama entered the second half with reju- venated defense and made thlngs quite difficult for Coach Alex anders husky crew of chargers: tne score has funny things about 1t, oe- cause, although Alabama nicked her solitary counter in the second guar ter, her offense was much more alive and effective in the last two periods. In fact Alabama seemed a much stronger aggregation after she hau rested the usual length of time al loted between halves than she did during that Mme she was fortunate enough to score on Tech. Clemens n Star One man particularly stood out In Alabama’s defensive work and, pe- cularly enough, he is man expected from advance reports to appear with some degree of prominence Clemens, who held down the left flank for the Crimson, was in every play. Practically every time Tech back hit the earth he hit it in unison win this fellow from Tuscaloosa. His q .” aShwart his broad back was one of the most easeTved marks of all observers. He bids fair, whatever that means. 10 make name for himself that will stretch beyond the confines of his natise heath. Since A.atama lot such great guns trt gaining g4A,siilftls frdrhS serim- mage, is is less difficult to. choose the defensive stars. tfne man looked extremely good. bat was deleted from the active roster Curing the first halt Propst is his name, and he was stationed at conter when the hostili- ties commenced Compton, a giant guard. was another who messed things considerably for the Tech hackiield and line. Backfieid Stars Bartlett and McClintock, if we can forget for minute the scene i’m spired by this S0-Yard Oliver. stood out conspicu Dusly in the ground gaining of the Crimson. In the fourth quarter for instance, this Me Ciintock got away on fake play and circled lett end for 40 yards. He seemed bound for touchdown, but refkoncd without considering that k d Barron was playing safety. Red threw hm high and he fell hard. but mt until he had advanced substan- tially. Teeh’s passing game showed inn provement. Five fiips were com pleted For distances. respectively. of 2l,. 27. l6.- 8 and , yards. total Of 1O2 yards, Alabama completed 3 passes, but none of them went for great distances. They were chiefly of the almost lateral variety, good fer ? to yards. No story of the game would be complete without heaping a few more laurels on the flashing Thatch of Captain Barron. This worthy, without S doubt, is the material in- s.,iration that will make Tech do things as the season advances. When he is in the game, there seems to exist different atmos- paere one more chockfull of zeal and accomplishment, time after time Sat. urday afternoon he streaked around end, falling only after concerted attack of several Crimson tacklers had locked his tortuous passage.
