It was a debacle for the Green, the worst defeat Dartmouth team has suffered in great many years and a triumph for the Cornell eleven and for Gilmour Dobie, who answered the much asked question if he is real football coach. A Dobie coached team, little nervous at first, fumbling badly in the first period, but fighting steadily with a remorseless punch and keen nose Tor the ball. turned on the most powerful attack that has been seen in Ithaca since the days of the famous Charlie Barrett. Straight football sufficed for the Ithacans most of the time. but two of their four attempts at forward passes sue ceeded at critical moments and in the third period, when a Dartmouth rally had halted Cornell temporarily. Dobie sent Carey out from the side lines as a substitute for Ramsey and he made a beautiful drop kick from the 81 yard line. It was q triumph for team play, a great forward line and q hard hitting and hard running backfield plus the best generalship that has been seen on a Cornell field in many n day. Cornell Looms Up Strong Following Sensational Victory Over Dartmouth Beginning in the first week of October each week has seen new foot ball sensation fash across the grid iron this fall. Lafayette was the first to startle the fans and make them realize this was to be whirlwind football season when it trotted out an array Of stars which handed the speedy Pittsburgh eleven a setback. Two weeks ago the Navy, displaying a rugged, ruthless, rushing attack, clip ped the Tiger stunning blow and i’m mediately took rank as one of tho Eastern elevens of the year. Last week Pittsburgh, its machine remodeled and the great Davis in shape, gave one of the greatest exhibitions of the year in trouncing Syracuse, thus restablishing itself as one of the great elevens. On the same day Yale, which has been gaining momentum all fall, moved up with the leaders by VIM ming a noteworthy victory over the big “Red Tank” which Doleful Gil Dobie has been carefully working on for two years. Penn States triumph over Georgia Tech was very much of surprise and entities BeZdek’s crew to first rank also, !>it this surprise is nothing compared to that the Ithacans handed out. Cor nelPs overwhelming win over the big Green team was a knockout and q knockdown for Dartmouth men. The result Of this contest created a great sensation here in the East, and was even more surprising than Pitts canter over the PROSTATE form Of the Orange. Not Hard Schedule Right here we want TO state that we are not claiming any championship for Cornell nor for any of the others men, toned above. Some have gained the impression that because we enthuse over certain team and announce that it is still in tho race for Eastern hon ors we arc awarding prizes prematurely and that we are jumping at conclusions. Nothing Of the sort. What we are aim ing to do is to me up the contenders TOR postseason review and to give credit where credit is due. It il unlikely that Cornell will be rated at the top of the list at the end Of the season, as its schedule is not nearly so hard as some Of the others Pittsburgh and Penn State. for in stance. Yale and the Navy have as good chance for title honors as the Ithacans. If not a better. There ara several matters to be considered in such q ranking. and many, many things can happen between now and the end of the season. But we do claim that Cornell, on account Of its great victory over Dart mouth Saturday, is entitled to be called first class team. So this morning we find the Red mingling with the Blue of Yale, the Blue and Gold of Pitts burgh, the Gold and Blue of the Navy, the Blue and White of Penn State and the Maroon and White of Lafayette. What q riot of football color that waves on high! Developed Green Players Dartmouth men are shaking their heads to-day and are wondering how it all happened They are at a loss to explain the debacle of their team. However, those who have followed the football fortunes Of the upstate STU , dents are not greatly surprised that Dobie, capable coach, has come

II was the worst slaughter in the history Of athletic relations between the two institutions. But It meant more than that-it cignaled the first victory in twenty-one years over the Green. Dartmouth’s line on the right side was weak. Cornell backs time after time ripping their way through the SPOT. The score stood II to in favor OF Cornell at the end Of the first half, but Dartmouth’s chances did not look a bit gloomy as both sides were fumbling the ball regularly. But, with the game half over. Cornell started a terrific attack, all along the line. Many times the attacks were repulsed, but the right side finally gave way and from then on it was an easy matter for Cornell to score.
