SINGLE SCORE / LOOMS LARGE | FOR HARVARD Crimson Strikes ,Snag in | Contest With Brown Wins by Z to 0 Score. HORWEEN CROSSES LINE Winning Points Are Made in First Few Minutes of Play ! on Soldiers Field. HORWEEN CROSSES LINE ! CAMBRIDGE, Mass, Oct 1s.-Harvards best available football team struck Brown a body blow in the first few min utes of play to-day, scoring a touch down by straight rushing from the kick Off. The advance was a brilliant one, and the Crimson looked as il it would be in for the happiest of matinees. But nothing like that hoppened, as after its setback the hard fighting Providence players while they had only one chance even to tie the score fought Harvard for every minute after the touchdown punch had been delivered and succeed &c in holding their goal line safe for the remainder of the game. All afternoon the Crimson threatened &c do something, ana many were its approaches toward Browns goal posts. Each time, however, the offensive raillies were stopped, and although four attempts were made by the Ha. ward dropkickers to add few points to the score, which a Brown touchdown would have tied, there was neither luck nor accuracy, and Brown left the field with only one regret-that it had not warmed up to the play earlier. The Cambridge eleven ran its plays at will through and around the Brown line on all parts of the field until within 15 or 20 yards of the Precedence goal line, but that was as far as the team could get. Harvard Lacks Punch. End runs forward passes and the line plays all worked SO smoothly up the field that whenever Harvard started a journey 1t seemed sure that the ball would be driven across again. But it never was. Harvard lacked the punch after its first effort Had Ralph Horween. Billy Murray and Sam FELTON, been more accurate with their goal kick shots Harvard would have had dozen more points. The elder Horween missed tries from the 50 and 20 yard lines in the first half. Murray missed from the so yard line, and Babe” FELTON, from the 10 yard line. Murray’s shot was the closest, but that was not worth anything. Brown showed little of the brilliancy of attack that some of the Providence teams have shown when they have appeared in the stadium. There was no Pollard for third wind runs, but In the third quarter Fox, a substitute quarter back. nut a wonderful spirit into the Brown eleven, and with his driving ana his own ability to skip around the Har- Yards I’D the field from their own 10 Harvard’s 25 yard line. touchdown would have tied the score and things were breaking Brown g way. but after Albright had landed on Harvard’s rs yard line by completing forward pass the Brown rushers were off side Albright then got another pass but could not break loose. and on iourtn down all that was left was for FOX 10 shutout Even this. however. was denieo Brown. Steele, the new PLAYER, looked mighty good, and Ton Woods, who was playing his first game regularly at right guard, was all over the field. He outshined even Clark.
