RUTGERS SWAMPS >URSINUS ELEVEN Though Still Not i’m Good Form Sanford’s Men Pile Up a Score Of $50. NEW BRUNSWICK. y. j.. Sept 2S- Rutgers won Its first football contest OF the season to-day. defeating Ursinus by 66 to 0. Foster Sanford. who had been away from practice all week, saw his men triumph. Two former Rutgers stars. Lieut.. Mike Wittpen and Seaman Bob Nash, also were on hand. Both teams played a clean game. No yards were lost from penalties. In spite Of the biz score 1t was evident that Rutgers had not yet rounded into form. Ragged tackllng and many FUN bles marred its work Two forward passes, Summerhil to Robeson. were successful. 1senberg, the Ursinus FULL back. snatched several passes from Rutgers. Ono heave that Breclley was waiting for to make touchdown struck the crossbar and rebounded. Rutgers won the tossup. Summerhil received the bail on his , yard line and ran 1t back for forty yards Three line plunges carried the pigskin to Ursinus’s yard line. Kelly plunged across for the first touchdown. Crsinus then received the hall and Isenberg made a run of sixty-seven yards. On the next play he kicked !; Baker misjudged the ball and received 1t on his headgear. The ball rebounded forty yards. to be recovered by Ursinus They were again forced 10 kick. Baker managedfto grasp the pigskin and car ried It twenty-three yards. The scarlet speedily tailed again this time Gard ner went over the line for the honors. He failed again TO kick the goal. Throughout the rest of the game Creirus had no chance. Whenever they held the ball they were dropped in their tracks. Rutgers made long gains at will through tackle or around end Trsinus resorted TO kicking. which they did admirably. This only held the score to minimum. Feitner also deserves praise for his handling OF Rutgers’s Sickoff. Baker failed to place his kicks after touchdowns only once and hung up six goals to his credit. The linelHn:
