LOSES TO GEORGETOWN Washington Eleven Scores Two TouchdoWns Against Opponents hual game with the Fordham eleven 1r Fordham Field yesterday after noon by 12 to 0. With a veteran nackheld that included the famous Gllroy and the even more effective x SMcQuade and with m advantage in Weight and experience the team from 4Washington was expected to wade sIlght through the Maroon. However, SHeorgetown did no wading. It had gall 1t could do to score two touch- S downs and got surprising battle < from whistle to whistle: Last year s4eorgetown had similar experience and won by 13 to o. SS Fordham would have done even s0etter yesterday but for it’s lack of lsApnnch and a general inability to get ssSogether at the critical moments !ss1aowever, the Maroon kept fighting at ssAll [ nes and in the fourth period ssworkGd its. way to Georgetown’s four yard mark. Fordham appeared cer- EstAin to score, but the enemy braced sand held for downs. sSN Georgetown got it’s touchdowns in the first half, one in each of the quar- tors, and McQuade scored both of 4hem. Shortly after the opening kick s0M forward pass from Gilroy to 4aloney gained 25 yards and put 4eorgetown on the MarooAs ten yard Satne. McQuade made five yards Through right guard and Gilroy added 1.-Two more through other side of line. Ia0n the two yard mark Gilroy fumbled sAut Fordham had been offside and @4eorgetown put the ball into play one sy&rd from the final chalk mark. On shnd over the line. Gilroy failed to kick goal. McQuade’s Own Product. v The second touchdown, recorded shortly after the start of the second quarter, was of individual McQuadc manufacture. Georgetown started it’s progress toward the score from its own forty yard line, where Gilroy got sAalligan’s punt. Gross gained four Sfards and McQuade made it first 1 Blown at Fordham’s thirty-five yard l post. McQuade threw in eight more | s14rds for good measure and then ssorocceded to run through center and Everything else for twenty-seven yards Mnd a touchdown. Once more Gilroy failed to kick goal. Forflham played Georgetown of tts feet in the third period. The quarter did not start very auspiciously for the locals, for Fordham was forced to re- \ slirqnish the ball on downs on its own sa4S sard line. Georgetown began to Experiment with the forward pass. aid /, When this fling at the open game 1 sIrovel a failure Maloney had to X Kick. N.s @ Fordham returned the punt, but s sGeorgetown resumed it’s forward pass stnE- Colletti stepped into the breach and intercepted toss on Fordham’s 446 yard mark. Then two exchanges \ 1f kicks followed, with Galligan mere Ethan holding his own with Ma1oney. From it’s own 2S yard mark Ford 7 ham had the nerve to try forward pass from Brennan to Du Moe. and lit succeeded for 15 yards. Another toss grounded, and Fordham lost five yards for off side. but still another pass from Brennan to Erwig went for eight yards. Colletti ran 21 yards Through hole at right tackle that \ looked like the subway Galligan ran < the bali to the 20 yard mark, and sthere tho period ended. Georgetown Comes to Life. ( To open the fourth period Erwig made five yards, and then five .nore. Erwig and Galligan took turns in Advancing the ball, and finally got 10 the 45 yard station. Here Georgetown came to life and hurled the Maroon back for the loss of the ball on downs. Fordham’s big chance had gone For the rest of the final quar- ter Fordham and Georgetown played on about an even basie, with lot of sloppy football and ineffective work in forward passing predominating. Despite the victory. the work of the Georgetown team was huge disap rointment and 1t gave every reason to believe that it will be showed ,n- der when it meets the Navy eleven on Saturday. The biggest disappoint- ment Of the day was Gilroy, the fa- nous Johnny who led the country iE scoring last season and was placed on numerous all America and All Eastern selections Gilroy played ordinary foot ball and never got away for even fair sired run after the opening moments. The only visitor who came up To ex- pectations was McQuadc, who this season has displaced Gi1roy as Al Ex- endfne’s bright particular star. Mo- Quade proved an expert in both the running game and in bucking the line He is a strong, natural player and DvershadOws the rest of his team. Whelan played well at right end, but the other wing was not very we’ll pro- fected. The Georgetown line showed green all over, but at that it outplayed the Fordham forwards by good < margin. McGrath in particular did hot have a successful day and was punctured to frazzlo. Erwig Fortlham’s Star. Fordham’s shining light was Bill, x Erwig. He was the star and the rest were nowhere when it came to the X attack. He made several brilliant runs, including a runback of 0 pun for fifty-two yards, and was the only tfaroon back who could make an ap.
