Last week Cooper wrote that Missouri can beat anyone when Jamal Roberts and Austin Simmons are rolling. Today Roberts did most of it himself: 32 carries for 165 yards in a 27–6 win over Texas A&M, including the 54-yard touchdown run that put it away.
Simmons wasn’t great (14 of 28 for 147 yards, a touchdown and a pick), and he didn’t need to be. Missouri’s defense held the Aggies to six points and picked off Marcel Reed twice. Reed finished 16 of 31 for 126 yards.
Then the press conference. Mike Elko explained why he didn’t bench Reed, and when the TexAgs crowd came up he said “Billy’s cesspool can go be Billy’s cesspool.” Going after your own fans’ message board after scoring six points is a choice. Not a great one.
Missouri’s defense is the real deal. A&M has a quarterback question and now a fan-base problem on top of it.
