YALE DEFEATS WESLEYAN. MIddletown Boys Give the Blue CIose Shave-Score Go MIddletown Boys Give the Blue a Close Shave-Score 60. The first football game of the season took place yesterday afternoon at the Yale field. 1t was typical fall day-blustery, with slight showers and, unfortunately, high wind, which was very disastrous for kicking The play of the Yale team through the entire game was characterized by fumbling, which will have to bs stopped before the large games if Yale intends to follow the example of last years team. The new men, Cross and Armstrong, showed up we’ll in the first half and played good strong game. With little more coach ing they will do excellent service. The interference of Yale, which was her strong point lest year, and in which she showed forth particularly strong, not at all up to the standard yesterday. This fault must be remedied or it may prove serious failing in the larger games to come. Laurie Bliss played his usual good game, and also made some striking runs around the ends. ‘‘Pop’‘ Bliss did good work in going through the line but he does. not take advantage of the interference around the ends as does his brother. The ball was repeated. | ly fumbled by the Yale backs, and on one occasion YVES lost to Wesleyan “ hen there was good | chance for scoring by this very fault. There We’re two twenty minute halves. In latter part Of second half Laurie Bliss was injured and | was replaced by Norton. Yale plays next game Brooklyn. The teams lined up follows: YALE WESLEYAN
