CONFERENCE FOOTBALL AONORS At STAKE WASHINGTON STATE COLLEGE FACES OREGoN’s HEAVY MA CHINE WHICH HELD DOBIE’S GANG TO 90 TIE ington State faces the crucial grid iron battle of the year when the Crimson and Gray meets the Uni versity of Oregon eleven on Multnonah field at Portland. The cham pionships of the Northwest confer ence and of the Pacific Coast are at stake. In her two conference games, Ore gon has tied the University of Wash ington and decisively beaten the Uni versity of California elevens. In earlier games Bezdek’s machine met and easily defeated Willamette and the Multnomah Athletic club. His team is a collection of veterans, all heavy and we’ll drilled. The eleven boasts several men of all-Northwest caliber, including Captain Beckett and Tegart, ends; Parsons, half back; Huntington, fullback, and Risley, center. In Captain Beckett, the Eugene team has the best punter in the Northwest. Washington State has shown well in her two victories over Montana and Idaho. Her defense evidences superiority over that of last years champions. and her offense indicates increased power. In the latter department, however, a certain amount of raggedness was responsible for the defeat by the Oregon Aggies, and has persisted in reducing the goal-driving efficiency of the team. Throughout the season, Dietz’s men have been the victims of numerous painful in juries. In the game with Idaho the hospital list was increased. Loomis, conceded a prospect for an end positon on the years all-Northwest eleven, will undoubtedly be on the side lines at Portland. The injury to his shoulder may keep him out during the remainder of the season. Finney, veteran guard, is doubtful also of participation in Saturdays contest. Bangs, Doane, Zimmerman, and Fishback are neither in the best of condition. Following is the tentative lineup OF the rival teams: L.E.R. Zimmerman 16S) -. Tegart (169) L.TR Brooks (17O) ..... Bartlett (176) L.GR. Hamilton t175) -. Spellman (1S0) c. Langdon (179) ...... Risley (174) R.G.L. Fishback (1SD ..... Snyder (194 R.T.L. Herreid (1S5) 49,. Mitchell (17D REL. L. Hanley (169) 80. Beckett (19D @. Brown (166) 80. Huntington 178) L. H. Bangs G72) ...... .Monteith (169) R.H. Boone (1S7) ....... Parsons (160) F. Doane (l65) -. Huntington (175) Officials: Varnell, referee; Stott Stanford, umpire; Francis, William cite, head linesman.
