Yale got revenge on Washington and Jefferson Saturday afternoon and beat the Pennsylvanians 36 to IA, in a spectacular game in the Bowl before 1S,000 persons. thereby wiping cut the memory of two defeats and a tie game played with this team in the last three seasons. Yale played brilliant and ragged football in turns. showing up to great advantage in the first half and as poorly in the second half as they were great in the first. The hard, fast attack of the Yale backs and the stone wall defence of the for wards made the game seem easy for the Blue in the first two periods, the score at the end of the second period being 30 to ‘. But in the second half Yale was outplayed by Washington and Jefferson and was held withaut score until the last few moments of play. Both of Washington and Jeffer- sons scores came as the direct result of the forward passes beautifully exc cuted by McCreight. the star of his team. The first touchdown was by McCreight after four forward passes landed the ball on the 5-yard line, the Washington and Jefferson team cover ing nfty-fiVe yards in the four passes. A total of 274 yards was made by the Pennsylvan- ians on this style of play McCreight did all the tossing, while Rubel Tres sal and Nuss did most of the playing. The passes kept Yale on the jump and revealed the fact that the Ellis are not so strong in meeting them as was supposed. Ellis Busy from Start Yale’s scores came thick and fast in the first half A forward pass, Carey to Comerford, put Yale in position to score a touchdown seven minutes after the game started. With the ball on the 25-yard line Carey circled Washington and Jeffer- sons left end for touchdown. The first period ended with the ball foot from Washington and Jefferson’s goal line and in two plays Smith pushed himself over for a score. Smith few moments later caught punt at mid field and. shaking off five men, ran the distance for a touchdown. It was the greatest and prettiest run of the day. It was here that Washington and Jefferson started march down the field by means of forward passes and McCreight made the first score for his team. Legore a few moments later kicked pretty goal from the 3S-yard line, the first field goal to be registered by Yale this year. Just before the half ended Legore squirmed through the opposing team from the 10-yard line, following steady drive through the Washington and Jefferson line by the Yale backs. A fine pass, Laroche to Church, in the last moments of the game, and another, Neville to Laroche. landed the ball on Washington and Jefferson’s B. yard line. from which point Neville took it over on line plunge. More than 1.500 members of the National Guard saw the game as the guests of the Yale management, and the crowd was the largest that ever saw preliminary game in the bowl.
