CADETS SCORE OTOUCHDOWNS, KICK 9 GOALS Army Team Wades Through Villanova, with Oliphant in the Van West Point, N. Y, Oct. 2s.-The Army, with Ollie 0liphant and Captain McEwan in the van, waded through Villanova to-day to the tune of 60 to T.. The Cadets scored ten touchdowns and kicked nine goals. Oliphant, the former Purdue star, was responsible for 40 OF the Army’s points. He rang the touch down gong six times and booted nine of the Army’s goals. The tenth one he was not asked to kick, inasmuch as he had retired to the side lines. 1t was missed. Long runs and short dashes, with Oliphant and McEwan always out in front, featured the offensive drive OF the Cadets to-day. Big Mac ranged himself alongside Of the runner and moved down the opposition right and left. Fhe army’s big centre had one of the best days of his career. Vidal, who has been out of the game much for injuries and who was obliged to give way in the third quarter to-day, also starred in advancing the ball for the Cadets. He got away for several long runs, one of them for fifty-five yards in the initial period, and he took the ball within striking distance several times. 0liphant went on with it to the end, each time. House, at end; Jones and Meacham, in the line, and Gerhardt, at quarter, deserve a share of the praise for their fine work today. The Cadets forward passing game showed big improvement, many of their air line plays counting for big gains. The Soldiers flashed all their head liners at the kickoff, al though an entire substitute team twice walked onto the field and took up the cudgCls. Villanova was able to hold the sub stitutes to one touchdown. but were powerless to stem the tide while the big fellows worked. The collegians’ score came in the opening period. Nc Guckin, who looked out Of place to-day on the Nillanova eleven, ran back an Army kickoff to the Cadets 30-yard line, and on the next play tossed long forward pass TO Mcclellan. who went on TO the Cadets 1-yard mark. He fell over the goal line with the ball for the touchdown a moment later, after a plunge into the line. McGuckin tried twice for field goals. once from the 38yard mark and again from the 40 ward line. The last time the ball hit the uprights and bounded back He was easily the star of the visiting team.
