SPORT WHEEZES Being Purloined Dog Meat, Prune Pics. Lemon Sandwiches. Etc. (By Clug.) (By Clug) In another place on this page will be found the State Journals al1-Kansas football team. And take it from us, it’s some team. Look the first selection over, and then imagine, if you can, what kind of a chance Nebraska would have of making a 33 to 0 score against such an eleven. The credit for assem- bling this team belongs to the conference coaches; the blame can be heaped upon this col umn. But, honestly, it looks like a winner. For weight, speed, line plunging ability and punting strength it would be hard to find a team of greater punch. And as a defensive team it should stand’like’ a stone wall. With the coaches who made the selections Captain “Pinky’‘ Beals, of Washburn, and Twist Altman, of the College of Emporia, were the big favorites Only one coach failed to place “Pinky’‘ on his team. Many local. followers will probably think that Rice, of Washburn, should have had center position on the first team Rice has played great football coaches seemed to think “Bi1P’ Hargiss’s candidate the man for the place. Nebraska has&iittle to fear from Iowa Saturday, iowa has not defeat ed the Huskefs since the Spanish american war; A fat delegation of Topekans will go to Manhattan Friday to witness the Sooner-Aggie game. Many of them want to see that siX-handed pass the OklahOmanS work. Few believe that the Aggies will have a remote chance to win, but the Farmer students are relying on Coach Bender’s past reputation as a surprise artist AS usual at this time of the year the Bull Moose football party is COM ing to life. And as usual, there is talk of eliminating the kicking of goal after touchdown. The Progressives claim that it | would be a better game if the one point maker were eliminated. AS an | argument it is being pointed out that ! Notre Dame lost to Nebraska because Badgers beat the Maroons by this one point. If it is desirable to eliminate the kicking of goal after touchdown, | then why not eliminate all field goals D.? | The element of luck enters into a field ! goal equally as much, if not more, | than in the kicking of goal from a | touchdown. That there will be more Thanksgiving day games next year than this seems certain. Several of the Missouri, Valley conference teams are said to be planning Turkey day dates for 1916, and it is pretty certain that Washburn college will again play on this day. The preliminary basketball practice at Washburn is expected to begin as soon as the football season is over. captain for the quintet is yet to be chosen, and most of the is still open. After sitting up night, doping out the all-Kansas teams. the K: U. plenipotentiary of the office insisted that this column pick an all-Missouri VAL ley team. So here goes: Chamber lain, Neb.. l. e.; Corey, Neb., l. t.; Shields, Neb., l. g.; Moser, Neb.. c.; Abbott, Neb., T. g.; Shaw, Neb., r. t.; Riddell, Neb., T. e.; Galley, Neb.. a.; Neb., L. h.; Beals, Wash burn. r. h.; Woody. Mo-. f. b. After last Fridays game, which they won from the Ichabods on a huke, Aggie rooters in Topeka set up a howl and proclaimed that their team did not play football, did not do its best, and consequently won by only one 1uke touchdown. Now, this week the Kansas State Collegian, the official organ of the Farmers, comes out with a big black ink praise for the Wildcats and pats them on the back for the wonderful fight they put up against Score Was to 0” Spirit of Wildcats Averted / Disaster Several Times During Combat Wildcats Real Fighters is the way the heading on the story reads Can you beat it The Home Coming number of the Daily Kansan, issued last as one of the features for the game, was, aside from the fact that it’s outside looked like 10 cent music sheet, handsome and creditable publication. THE Bat tlefield from an Aeroplane,’ the foot ball dope. the illustrations, and even the Ford ad on the editorial page were all attractive features. The frontispiece, Jayhawker in the act of boot ing, was drawn by Ward Lockwood
