Although unable 70 score, Colgate was dangerous several times during the engagement. The Orange was too heavy to combat the shifty aerial game of the visitors, and numerous gains were credited 10 Colgate as result Of new open foot ball. The Syracuse line outweighed that of the visitors by several pounds, but the line charging of the Orange backs proved futile, as il was necessary for Wilkinson to kick almost invariably after the third down. Rose alone was able to gain, and he seldom failed to gather in few yards as a result of line plays. But for the work Of Rafter, who time and again tackled Colgate men after every other Syracusan had missed. Syracuse would have been bad ly beaten. Rafter, third string quartcrback. was sent into the game late in the final period. Schlachter, a Bushwick High School graduate, who is said 70 be the best tackle ever seen on the Syracuse field, was also a star. Despite his 235 pounds, he was often the first man down the field under punts, and his general line play was feature. Z
