‘OUEER LOOKING TEAM GIVES GREEN VICTORY Many Regulars Out and Their Substitutes Play Poorly: Amherst Is Worse. FINAL SCORE IS 32 TO 0 HANOVER, y. H.. Oct. Silt took an expert to identify the Dartmouth team which defeated Amherst 80 to this after noon as the one which went down fighting at Princeton a week ago. for the Green team at Princeton had eleven hustllng, snappy football players. To-day’s team had none OF the hustle and snanp and very few OF the eleven men. Dartmouth started a hybrid lineup with Capt Whitney. Curtis. Teller. Cot ton, McAuliffe and Merrill on the bench. When the first period had dragged through unsatisfactory McAuliffe and Merrill were sent to bolster up the line, which they did for a time until Injuries had so depleted the squad that there were no TACKLES and none of the varsity back field available. Child, McAuliffe, Murdoch and Ghee having been disabled After that the crowd was subjected TO the dispiriting sight OF seeing various combinations of linemen play in strange positions. and the game lost most Of its interest with the infusion OF swarm OF substitutes. As a thriller the game failed largely from the start. Ghee provided all the excitement there was with varied and brilliant assortment OF short dashes through the line, long forays through a broken field and an accurate rapid fire OF passes. After he nhd made his second touchdown two Amherst tacklers Jumped on hs head, and with him went al effervesence of the game He returned in the last three minutes OF play. but die not have time to get warmed up to nj; work again before the game dragged to a conclusion. Amherst did thu best II could under ex trcmcly adverse conditions. Neither II material. training nor assurance was tn, = which probably could have run the scor. way up IL II had taken an interest in III ( work. Amherst showed night and nothlnl / more. few lone formations bein, / smearoi before they could get started | Dartmouth could not be said to have dis / playel rUCh more. a half a dozen lin, / plays and one pass formation sufficing / Perhaps II there had been any need 70 | h.tllianCe the reaction from last weel would not have been SO apparent: az / ! was. however. the game was full OF per | functory charges and needless penalties ! Dartmouth suffered severely in the mat ! ter OF injuries. One tackle. Cotton. wa already on the injured list. and the gam | put two more, Child and McAuliffe. aloni ! with him. These men We’re depended upoi for future games Moreover. Ghee wa bruised severely, and Murdoch. who Ia appeared TO be the Green’s strongest back vrenched his shoulder so badly that h | probably will be out for several WoeSs !
