UPSET BY GRID RESULTS Football Scores of Yesterday Big Surprises, Especially in the East. Talk about your sirspfises! Looking over the scores piled up on the ma tons football fields yesterday, shocks and shivers are simply hurled upon the football fans. Arbor today, the crepe probably hangs in bolts upon the door of each athletic office. The scores Of yesterday upset a seasons dope. Washington and Jefferson, barely defeated a week ago by Harvard, when their star line-man was out, comes back and humbles Yale by a 10 to 7 count. Yale was not Grip pied, was playing at mid.season form, and the Bulldog has no alibi to present. Harvard was crippled, certainly, but Percy Haughton had perfected an attack which he thought vas good enough for Michigan. Along comes Pennsylvania State, given little con sideration this year, and holds the mighty Crimson layout to a~13l3 tie. TRAVELLING “a little furtherlwest, to Syracuse, we find the Orangemen HlldllSlllS IL nv w y UCdIllI6 w 1OSIo Wolverines. True it is that Mfchigan had only one man in the lineup that played regularly last year and he was out of his regular position, but nevertheless the result of the game takes a big edge off of the in %tersection struggle, between Michigan and Harvard next Saturday. Even if, Michigan, does beat Harvard, both Penn State and Syracuse viii claim supremacy or equality, while if Yale comes back and beats Harvard, Wash ington and Jefferson will be right there with a perfectly good claim. In the West, Nebraska’s “a to 0 win over the Michigan Aggies stamps them as about on a par with Chicago and Illinois. Zuppke’s 1llini proved that advance claims were correct, by overwhelming poor old Northwestern, 33 to 0. Chicago ran all over Pur’ due, 81 to 0, showing greater strength than Wisconsin and fixing things so that the Conference title seems to lie between herself and Illinois. W%isconsin’s I to 6 victory over Ohio State does not show very much strength for the Badgers, while Min. ~nesota’s 7 to 0 win Over Iowa proves that Williams has a great job before him if the Gophers get a look in at the title. “ North Dakota’s defeat at the hands of St. Thomas is not a very great surprise, for the Catholics have a crackerjack team, while the N. d. Aggies certainly showed unrecognizstrength in defeating Manchester.
