Special to Times Republican. Des Moines, Nov. 9.-Iowa defeated Northwestern, Ames smothered Cornell and Drake was swamped by Missouri in the. three most important games played by Iowa state teams Saturday. Iowa’s showing against Northwestern, which team was minus H!ghtower for the larger part Of the game, was not as good its showing agains. the other big nine” teams. 1t still kept its place of being relatively close to Chi cago, however. Ames was not expected to run wild against Cornell and the score can be taken as an indicaton that the Aggie team Is coming strong for it’s game against the state university next Saturday. Drake was expected to give Missouri a stiff battle but the Tiger outfit, with Lake in the stellar role, added it’s fifth victory over Drake and incidentally made a four point larger margin than Drake ever had rolled up against Missouri. Northwestern Fights S. U. 1. The state university team found stiff opposition in it’s game with Northwest ern and had to work hard, both defensively and extensively, to roll up a touchdown in each of the first quarters. Theor offense worked for two scores In the third quarter and the entrance of Hightowar into the game put Iowa on the defensive again in the fourth period. The game was so close that Hawley had little chance to save his regulars for the game with Ames next Saturday, Hightower threatening all thru the mai period. Missouri had larger margin Of play against Drake than any team the Bull dogs have met this year. Drake got the jump on the Tigers at the begin ming Of the game and took the ball up to the six-inch line, Missouri holding. Late in the game the local team again took brace and aided by a penalty Of half the distance to the Missouri goal line for illegal substitution pushed the ball into Missouri territory, good for ward pass making the final yards for touchdown. For just few minutes
