STIFF GAMES ARE ON SCHEDULEF0R ELEVENS OF EAST Harvard Meets the Conquerors of Pennsylvania and Yale Plays Lehigh. ST. PAUL, Oct.8-Although the results of the annual struggles between Minnesota and Ames at North rop field, Chicago and Northwestern at Stagg field, and Illinois and 1ndiana at Urbana will command the in terest of Western football fans on Saturday, the showing which Harvard, Eastern champion, makes against Washington and Jefferson, the eleven which defeated Pennsylvania last Sat- ‘urday, 10 to 0, and the result of the ‘Yale-Lehigh game must not be over looked. Leigh defeated the Carlisle Indians last Saturday, 21 to 6. Purple Will Fight Hard. Despite the poor showing made against Lake Forest, Northwestern may be worthy foe for the Maroons, Coach Murphy and his players realize they must make a creditable showing in this struggle if a successful season is to be experienced in Evanston. Illinois should win from Indiana if the down starters show the same dash and speed that was displayed last Saturday against the Christian Brothers of ST.. Louis. The Hoosiers did not show enough football against Chicago to warrant them as being strong aggregation. Purdue, another conference eleven which must be reckoned contender for the conference title, will meet Western Reserve in game which the Boilermakers should win. The Buck eye aggregation suffered Z to 6 de. feat by Kenyon last Saturday, and the coming struggle should only be a STEP ping stone in the development Of Purdue. Easy Task for Badgers. Marquette will be Wisconsin’s opponent at Madison. AS the Milwau- ‘‘tee aggregation was defeated by Car roll last Saturday, 16 to 0, the Bad gers should not have much trouble to win by one-sided score. This game will give Coach Juneau good oppor’ tunity to try out all his candidates fol the Purdue game on October II. ! Iowa will will 60 into action against Cornell college of Iowa in game which Coach Hawley’s team should win handily. Ohio State will meet Case at Columbus. AS the Cleveland aggregation went down to defeat by Michigan last Saturday, 50 to O., Ohio State should be an easy winner. Strong Foe for Michigan. Michigan will receive it’s test wher it meets Vanderbilt at Ann Arbor The Southerners always have giver ties in the past, and this years game the Wolverines stubborn fought bat may be no exception. Vanderbilt wor |:from Henderson Brown university last Saturday, AZ to 6, and Coach McGui gan’s eleven should give Michigan thu needed try-out for the intersections battle with Harvard at Cambridge or October 81. Warm-up for Notre Dame. Notre Dame will get its last try out before meeting Yale at New Ha ven on October II by playing Ros’ Poly at Notre Dame. This gam should afford Coach Harper the op portunity Of trying plays to be uset in the Eastern conflict. Nebraska will tackle South Dakota at Lincoln. LAX Forest will play Lawrence at Apple ton. Drake will oppose Grinnell a FDes Moines, and Northwestern col lege will meet De Pauw at Naperville In the East interest will be center ed around the Harvard Washington Jefferson game at Cambridge. TIL defeat of the Quakers by w. and J stamps the Crimson eleven’s oppon ent as worthy foe, and after thi contest an idea of Harvard’s 191 strength can be drawn. | mr. 1Ar1r r0TyAYrTCo
