CLEMSON Wins GREAT GAME, SCORES THIRTY TWO POINTS TO CAROLINA’S ZERO. Three Sumter Boys Play in Part of Game and DO Good WOrk-Interference and Speed of Clemson and Costly Fumbles by Carolina Win Game. In their annual game at the South Carolina State Fair Clemson College put it all over the University of South Carolina football team Thursday afternOOn, winning the game by a score Of 32 to 0. The speed Of the Clemson ends and backfield men, ClemsOn’s beautiful in terference at all points in the game and costly fumbles by the Carolina backs were the chief causes to con. tribute toward Cardinals overwhelm. ing defeat. Five Of ClemsOn’s six tOuchdowns were directly or indirect. ly due. to fumbles by Carolina back. Four times the ball was dropped By the backs and picked up by the fast Clemson ends or backs and carried over Carolina’s goal line. Another time Hayward muffed a kick and a Clemson man recovered the ball with in striking distance Of Cardinals goal. Throughout the game Clemson was speedier than their opponents and their interference was as fine a feature Of football play as has ever been seen on the Fair ground at any game. In line plunging Carolina had the best Of it, the backs going through Glenn sons line repeatedly for good gains, while Cardinals line held like a stone ha NIL and repeatedly the Clemson backs were spilled at losses, when they tried the line. Clemson gained repeatedly on end runs, made possible by good interference. The game, however, was one Of kicking all the way through. Caroand throughout the first half only once tried line plunging. Clemson got the advantage in the exchange of kicks, for the Clemson men rarely failed to down the Carolina backs in their tracks when they received the ball, while the Clemson backs rarely failed to bring the ball forward for a good gain, because Of the assistance rendered the runner by his teams in reference. Several times Clemson recovered the ball on kicks. For Carolina, Hayward and Hill were the stars Oh defense, althOu gin the men in the line did beautiful work. Webb and Logan for Clemson were stars on Offense. ClemsOn’s line also held we’ll after it got on to Car Olina’s plunges and the ends were i’m pregnable. Three Sumter, or near Sumter boys were in part Of the game on the Clemson team and all of them did we’ll. Reeves played at half, for a good part OF the game, Randle played for more than a quarter at guard and DuRant played for nearly half of the game at full back. DuRant and Reeves live at DuRant, Clarendon county, and Randle lives in this city. All three have played on the local high school team, where they got their initiation in the great college sport. Reeves especially made some beautiful runs with the ball.
