HARVARD LIES Low Uses Many Substitutes, But Defeats Dartmouth, 3 to o. KEEPS TACTICS FROM YALE Brickley Kicks Field Goal. for the Only Score of the Game. CAMBRIDGE, Mass, November 10 Harvard, using only part of its reputed offensive tactics, defeated Dartmouth today by score OF 3 to 0. The Crimson played conservative game It’s goal line was never threatened by the green jerseyed team, and it’s principal batteries OF attack to be used against Yale next Saturday are still uncovered The only score Of the game was field goal in the third period by Brickley. Harwards kicking back. Brickley had three other opportunities to score in the. same way, but a fiuky wind or hurried kick spoiled each attempt. Englehorn of Dartmouth tried two place kicks. each from the 4O-yard line. both of which went wide. Lack Of a few seconds additional time robbed the Crimson Of a touchdown. The game ended with the ball in Harvard 5 where 1t had been brought on three rushes after Brickley had intercepted a Dartmouth forward pass and had run to the Green’s 1O-yard line. The end of the game came just as Brickley was about to lunge himself forward for the final thrust The series of plays which resulted in Brckley’s successful field goal in the third period began on Harvard s ,2O-yard line. After a single rush. in which Brickley made yards, the Crimson was given Is yards on a Dart mouth penalty for rough playing. From midfield the real march to the goal began. An end run by OBrien counted 30 yards, another by Hardwick added 10 more and two line smashes by Brickley brought the ball to Dartmouth’s S-yard line. Earlier in the third period Brickley had been placed in position to kick goal from the field by the Crimson attack. The only touch of new foot ball shown by Harvard was developed in starting this period, when half a dozen yards were made on an intricate forward pass play which Harvard apparently learned from Vanderbilt in last Saturdays game. Twenty yards We’re gained on another forward pass, O’Brien receiving. Wen dell and Brickley then bucked the line successfully for 20 yards in four rushes. A Dartmouth penalty of yards and two unsuccessful Crimson rushes brought the ball to the 2O-yard line. Here Brickley kicked, but the trial was unsuccessful. Dartmouth’s offense included nearly every style of attack, but the Crimson defense was at all times sufficient. Dart mouths line plunges were smothered its end runs We’re stopped, forward passes were intercepted or prevented and its new trick plays We’re generally solved. Substitute Quarterback Ghee made ~ yards on a fake forward pass, which was the Green’s best play. The lineup and summary follow:
