Mount St. Mary’s presented team that was much heavier than Georgetown. Its line easily out weighed the Blue and GRAY. and its backfeld, too, was much heayier than that presented BY the Hilltoppers. At the beginning of the contest things looked danger GUS for the Georgetown eleven, as Mount St. Mary’s presented unexpected strength. Capt. Flannery of Mount St. Mary’s won the toss and chose to receive at the east end OF the field. Harry Costello kicked ID Flannery, who ran the ball back II yards before being tackled by Barron. On two cleverly exc cuted plays Mount st. Marys made first down easily. and made the Georgetown rooters fear that score was forthcoming. Again Mount St. Mary’s went into the Georgetown line for a first down, Capt. Flannery carrying the ball on double pass. On the very next attempt bv the Maryland boys Setter, the right halfback. was tackled hard by Derby that he dropped the ball. which was recovered by Ritch for George town. Harry Costello kicked three goals, missing one easy chance. 1t was impossible yesterday TO get much OF a line on Georgetown and the Hilltoppers chances of turning out winner, for the reason that during the first three periods nothing but simple line plays were tried. Try openystyIe Play. With five minutes left to play In the; final quarter, Georgetown opened up with forward passes. scoring a touch down when Donnelly received the ball from Foley. the first-named being behind the goal posts as the pigskin land ed into his arms. Mount st. Mary’s. coached by Mike Thompson. the well-known referee, was outweighed, and considering that they tackled a team out of their class. put up a sterling exhibition. There was plenty OF fight and spirit. but the odds against them were too much. Georgetown’s line needs practice In starting quickly. and the interference Is ragged The backfield compares favor ably with any college Of its size in the country, but the line can absorb a whole lot of coaching II the Hilltoppers are to hold their own against the Carlisle In dams During the flag end OF the game. Coach Gargan sent in nine substitutes, and the work Of Jim Dunn. Van Brocklin, and Donnelly was a revelation to the stu dent body. II is hard 10 see how Dunn can very well be kept OF the varsity this season. The big fellow ripped up Mount sSt Mary’s line for big gains every time he was given the ball. Visitors start on Well. From the opening kickoff. when the visitors received the ball. Mike Thompsons boys tore on a couple of first downs so quickly that nobody realized what had happened.
