  old ELI HELD To ONE TOUCHDOWN Yale Able to Score but Once Against Holy Cross, Frequent Fun bles Proving Fatal. New Haven. Conn, Sept. S-Holy Cross to-day held Yale to a single touch down. netting a to o scofe, the smallest tally in the football history Of the two institutions. Only once was Yale’s goal threatened, while Yale kept pounding the visitors citadel only TO be checked by fumbling that was constant and cuIpable. Markle. Cornish. Beckett. Capt. Spaulding. and Cornell all erred. the slip Of Cornish occuring when he was dashinS over the Holy Cross goal line with what would have been a touchdown. Yale had three easy opportunities to score the first in the opening period when a splendid forward pass by Capt. SpauIding. lifted the ball forty yards and was caugl; at the Holy Cross 5-yard line. On the second sCrimmage Markle shot through the rush line and went over the line. but dropped the ball where it fell beneath a mass of Holy Cross tacklers. Holy Cross displayed plenty Of reserve strength in both the two flnal periods, dashing we’ll into Yale’s terri tory twice. but having no play with which to clinch the near touchdown.
