PREDICTIONS FOR HUGE FOOTBALL SCORES ARE NOT BEING FULFILLED Princeton’s, Great Score Against Stevens Only Notable Exception That’s No Criterion, as Hoboken Team Is Weak at This Time. tack. AT one time he tore off a punt of seventy-four yards. Among the. notable featurs OF Saturday+s games was the Facility with which the forward pass was used at critical moments. A forward pass enabled Yale to score her only touch down against Holy Cross. Spalding passed the ball to Cornish. Previously Yale had the ball on the Holy | Cross Vineyard line for first down and failed ignobly in an attempt to pierce the enemies line for six points and a possible seven that would have made the score a bit more s~atisfactory to the Bull Dog. Yale’s chief complaint is the lack of a capable quarterback to fill the shoes of Arthur Howe, the clever South Orange boy, who ran the Blue so skillfully and successfully last season. Penn scored one of her touchdowns against Gettysburg on a forward pass. Twice when Gettysburg tried the play PENIS men broke through and frustrated the attempts. Dart mouth used a forward pass twice with success in scoring twenty-six points against Bates. Cornelrs lone score against Colgate came through the same medium. Likewise Colgate in , beating the Ithacans scored a touch down the same way. Princeton successfully executed the forward pass thrice in accommodating 60 points against the Civil Engineers. who showed a woeful dizziness at times in solving the Princeton attack. Harvard alone of the big teams was unsuccessful in her lone attempt to carry through this brilliant play. Cor nelfs first reverse so early in the sea son naturally auses a jet-hued cloak of gloom to descend over the Ithaca institution. The Ithacans seem to be losing prestige on the gridiron, and desperate to improve her system will probably be the result of Saturdays defeat. A Question. The question arises: What would Yale and Harvard have dom with their opponents under the restrictions of last years rules, when scoring was at a premium? The shortening of the field, the increased down and the addition of one point for a touchdown have all helped to augment a teams ability to roll up bigger scores. Harvard and Yale men, however, are still full of hope. The Crimson hopes to develop a star punter. and believes that her team will acquire the punch with practise. Yale’s coaches will devote more of their time to their quarterback ma %terial, believing that this will be the solution of their difficulties.

September cS.- The Princeton eleven opened it’s season here this afternoon with an overwhelming victory over Stevens Institute. the final score standing 81 to 0. The Tigers played good early season foot ball, but the one-sidedneess of the score was due more to the poor defensive playing of the visitors than to any startling work by Princeton. The Stevens eleven at no time was able to withstand the fierce onslaught of the Orange and Black Princeton’s veteran backfield, Capt Pendieton. Baker and De Witt. tore Through the Stevens line at will for gains or from 10 to 20 yards, while the two haffbacks each made several runs of more than 40 yards. The forward pass was worked successfully three times. The entire scrub eleven played the third quarter for Princeton. The lineup:

PRINCETON AND RUTGERS MEET Battle on Gridiron Tomorrow Scores to be Compared. Rutgers and Princeton battle on the latter’s gridiron tomorrow after Don in a tussle which is awaited with much interest and anxiety by every person in New Brunswick. There are small hopes, if any at all, for a county seat victory, but what the New Brunswick supporters are awaiting and expecting is a good showing SO that they can look down upon Stevens, their closest rivals, and sheer at them. Last season Stevens opened against Princeton and was defeated by a 81 to 0 score. Rutgers came to tackle the Tigers the following week and were beaten by the same tally, 81 to O. But this season things loom up in brighter style for the New Brunswick boys and 1t is almost a cinch that they will make a better showing than their Hoboken rivals who died Saturday at the hands of the Princeton warriors by a 65 to 0 score.
