GEORGETOWN BEATS VIRGINIA BY 9 TO 0 Continued from Page One, Main Section. and through the line. and Harris splendid offensive and defensive work formed a galaxy of attractions hard to beat. For Virginia. Center Wood and Tackle Davidson performed miracles in holding together their faltcrins line. Wood was everywhere. extensively and defensively, playing havoc with some of George towns best fOrma tions. AS usual. the forward pass proved a failure. An entire repertoire of line plays had to be discarded because of the field. The same WAS a succession of punts, runs. and the thrills OF the open game. Georgetown seemed to be in entire COM mand of the situation from start to finish, although her opponent was no Welkling. Draws 5000 Persons. The gridiron classic, of course drew out the banner football crowd of the year. 1t was conservatively estimated at 5000 persons, with all the cOlorful femininity and gayly caparisoned motors needed to give the proper “atmOsphere’‘ to football as Il social function. The ancient “Hoya, hOya, Saxa” floated across the field as a paean of triumph; two brass bands WED with one another in tearing off the latest ragtime; two bulldogs. one Georgetown and one Virginia-nOt to mention the celebrated Virginia pig-had the full run of the gridrion between halves, and were deCideddy popular with the photographers The arrangements for the game were execrable. Georgetown apparently finds it impossible to learn how to handle a foot ball game in metropolitan style. All the spectators had to pass through four foot gate box holders, reserve seat hold ers, and all; the crush and the jam was little less than an outrage on the public. With the street cars emptying thousands on the scene within few minutes, a swirling mob Of men, women, and chill dren stormed the single gate in a strug gle that only by miracle did not result in serious injuries to many. The arrangements inside the grounds were almost equally bad; the ushers seemed to have as intelligent a grasp of their duties as SO many children.
