Yost is fortunate in one particular and that is that Syracuse will in all probability furnish a good team upon which to experiment with this new combination. From everything that can be learned from the reports from the fasteners themselves, Syracuse will be weak Saturday. Their record this season sustains the reports. So far in Eve games, they have won, only two, defeating Hobart IN the opener by a score of 6 TO 0, and scrap ing a to victory from the platter proffered them by Rochester. They were humbled by Yale. II TO 0, and then went down before Lafayette, 10 to o. and before Springfield Training school, 9 to 5. Now there is no doubt but that II is to the advantage of the uniyersity’s reputation, and to the standing of the football coaches of the eastern school 20 have 1t well understood before coming east that the New York eleven 10 in an unusually bad way. Even when victory is expected. advance bear stories about injuries and IN eligibilities and ptomaine poisoning and too much boning may cut the af- record of bare victories and one defeat at the hands and toes of schools without regulations, and of decisive humblings by Yale and Lafayette, is something that can’t be evaded. But the Maize and Blue has very grizzly lowering story OF it’s own, the sad part of which Is that il a s,xn,. & fo frt1n The football machine to face the Syracusans will be bunch of old and new cogs in strange and HHcanny arrangement The loss OF Shorty” McMillan’s head and gameness from the contest is a serious drawback number one Craig or Picard will take his place. Wells will undoubtedly make good at half for he is line plunger of the highest class. Pontius, a former full hack once used on the line, and now shifted to the wing, ought to show class. Kaynor Is a new man from the scrubs division who has been working hard With the exception of Thompson al fulback. and Patterson at center, there is not a man who retains his Oiu pOblllOH, DuI Ill Dul Nay UOT are experienced men. With the new com bination to get working in a few short days. there may be bunch OF costly miscues. This is what worries most now. The individual men will no doubt be able TO take care OF themselves. but will the combination work? Central and Eastern highs are all agog over the most important game OF the season between local teams, the go between the men of Stocking and the men OF Wuesthoff, Saturday. Central seems to have the classiest bunch OF scholastic players in the city. There is no particular star in the aggregation. Clark claims the spotlight often with his clever work but every man plays the game we’ll TO shine In this bunch is a difficult proposition. The Eastern gang. to, is no bunch Of slouches when II comes TO play. ing football, and they are going into Saturdays game with the cheerful prospect that no matter how badly they do. there cannot be much lost, that good showing against Central viii be viewed as a practical victory. and a triumph over the “Hippos would turn new leaf in Detroit football history. Now what these two teams don I know about each other, isn’t worth mentioning. IL can be safely as snmed that the strength and weak ness OF every man on each team has been carefully tipped OF to the BOYS Of the rival Institution. Every op. portunfty to take advantage of these Weaknesses will be snapped IN. so hat aNscrap from beginning to end may be expected 2. F, ss 4 , Dsss s n. n-..
