RANDOLPH MACON LOSES TO VIRGINIA Yancey’s Eleven Makes Good Showing OH Wet Field. Charlottesville, Va, Oct. University of Virginia’s football eleven played through forty minutes of constant down pour against Randolph Macon on Lam beth Field here to-day, but in spite OF unfavorable conditions, scored a decisive victory by 81 to O. Last season the same teams met and cally the same that was presented in to-day’s game. The day was highly adaptable to the sport, but the best Virginia could do was four touchdowns and a single goal. Under adverse conditions to-day’s score was nothing short of remarkable and speaks we’ll for the efforts of Coach Yancey and his corps Of assistants thus far. One of the six touchdowns scored was the result of a fUke. The others were all well earned, coming after fierce line plunging. a Sc ries of successful forward passes. and clever end runs. Those who watched the game from the side lines expressed themselves as confident that under ia vorable weather conditions the score would have been doubled. On several occasions the Virginia backs worked the ball within a few yards of the goal line, only to lose it on a tumble. AS in last weeks game. Gooch and Todd were the individual stars. Landes, who succeeded the former in the latter stages Of the game, and Smith, another Lawrenceville product, who took Fin lays place at right end in the last few minutes of play, made favorable i’m pressions.
