SCORE WAS 30 TO o--GILLEM’S FOUR DROP KICKS FEATURE OF THE GAME ALABAMA DISPLAYED BEST FORM OF SEASON Sewanee romped away with Alabama yesterday afternoon on Redwood Field and concluded brilliant, though lop- sided, engagement by score of 30 to 0. Though Captain Lanier, on account of a probable stiffness and fear of a possible injury, watched the struggle from the sidelines, there was nothing lacking, apparently, in the Tiger ma chine. The old force was there;- the splendid speed was there; the good judgment was there, and the result of splendid coaching stood out from ev- cry curve and angle. And though the result would have been considerably larger had Sewanee extended itself. 1t Is true that Alabama was as game as ever, and in addition showed to better advantage than at any previous time this season. In the final quarter Alabama cut loose a couple of forward passes which were finely executed and put into move ment one of the innumerable forma- tions which open style football per- mits Giiem Drop Kicking Of the Tigers, Gillem was a distinct star on account of his magnificent kicking of goals from the field and his excellent bunting from behind the line On six occasions the mountain leg of this purple end attempted to put the oval through the goal posts, and on four of these, he was signally suc- naSgfI1l Hiq than 50 yards, three times in succession the spirals going beyond the position of Alabama’s quarterback and on one oc- casion covering a distance of CT yards before being checked. “Chigger” Browne was as speedy as daring, as brilliant as ever. In the first quarter he broke from behind a formation around Alabama’s left end and ran GO yards for touchdown. His work In returning punts was excellent, and throughout the game he was ev anywhere, either dashing against the line for gain, skirting an end for big distance, or directing the men under him. Faulkinberry, in comparison with other Tigers, did only ordinary work, and in addition was guilty innumer- able times of holding in the line. Alabama Showed Improvement Inasmuch as Alabama, outweigh ed about five pounds to the man, never Jagged in it’s love of battle, every Wearer of the crimson white deserves special mention for good work. None of them, true enough, could do any thing, but all of them tried. The Van dergraaf boys did especially fine work and their gameness was one of the topics of discussion along the side lines Moody generated the team clever ly and on more than one occasion pre- vented Sewanee touchdown by a tackle behind the line Baumgartner had his interference been better. would tain Gresham was a stone wall against SeWanee’s rushes. The team is still very crude in tack ling. in forming interference and in fall- ing on the ball. But yesterday 1t ap- peared better on the offensive than on the defensive.
