ALABAMA 4; TENNESSEE 0 Heroic Struggle For Gridiron Honors. PLATT KICKS FROM PLACEMENT Muddy Field Prevented Fast Spectacular Work. Alabama Clearly Outpunted the Ten nessee Delegation and Deserved Larger scOre--Thrce Thousand Enthusiasts Witnessed the Game. Birmingham. Nov. 26.-(SpeciaL)-- In a game that was stubbornly con- tested from the staT1 to the finish. the University of Alabama today defeated the University of Tennessee by the score of to 0, and as consequence takes high rank in Southern athletics. The heroic struggle for grfdiron hon. ors was waged on a neld that was soil that charaoterizes the fair grounds arena was just sticky enough to clog to the runne~ feet and prevent any faster spectacular work. Two bucks against the line for downs. all of them a punt. were tho monotonous features of the up and down held duel for hon. prs. For more times than could be enumerated, this play was resorted to. Alabama’s score came near the end of the last half. when Merrill Plat kicked from placement. the spheroid sailing squarely between the posts. It was the seventh time durinK the game that the toe of Alaban1a’s trusted play CT had attempted this stunt Six times the mighty Pratt kicked for goal and failed. Once Alabama was on TenneB- sees twelve yard line when an uns successful attempt 10 go through the lines called for the inevitable expedi- ent. At this close range, Tennessee blocked the kick that seemed sure to win. Not single time during the first half did Tennessee have the ball in Alabama’s territory. and only once or twice in the last haIf. with the excep- tion of the last three minutes of play. After Alabama had scored. the Tennessee eleven seemed imbued with fierce determination to retrieve the misfortune of the day and unloosenIng some dazzling forward Nasses, the vel. low line twice threatened Alabama’s goal. They would undoubtedly have Succeeded but for costly fumbies that lost the. pigskin. Leach Laid Up. Lying or the side lines, his shoulder dislocated and his eye bandadged. Cap down in defeat. Johnson. who suc- ceeded Leach, played good game and the loss of the day could not be att sAiabama clearly outpointed the Ten- nessee aggregation and deserved a larger score. Pratt’s failure. to kick goal was no doubt due to the condf- ton of the field. The ball being heavy and found Alabama on Tennessee’s five yard line at the end of the first half.
