LUCK FAVORS BADGERS; ILLINOIS IS DEFEATED. In a Desperately Fought GridirOn Com test at Champaign, Wisconsin Wins BY the Score of 16 to 6. Wisconsin defeated Illinois, 6 to c. Saturday in an exciting and sensational contest that was far more close than the score indicated. The tide of bat tie wavered from the Badgers to the Illini, but turned in the last half. Predictions that the elevens would be evenly matched We’re more than borne out by the battle, which was tight from the kickoff to the finish, when the car dinal rooters clustered about their vic torious warriors and sang them off the field with the Wisconsin hymn. The first half promised to be a score less battle, until fate dealt four aces to the Badgers when Rogers crossed the local goal in triumph. From the start Illinois easily had the better of it. The Illini had carried the war within the cardinal lines, and the Badgers were forced to punt time and time again, without essaying an attack on the local line. The half was well nigh over when Rogers, scurrying down the field on a punt by Clark, got his chance when Pettigrew failed to catch the oval which bounded to the ground. The car mine CARRIED warrior, scarcely stopping ! in his gait, bent over, snatched the ball and made like mad for the local goal while Clark and others of his comrades warded of the diminutive Sinnock, who vainly tried to stop the feeting Badger Rogers sped over forty white chalk lines and scored. Aghast at the touchdown, the Illinois fought desperately, but the Badgers We’re hard to buck, and their ends eff fectively stopped plays directed at them. The half ended with the Badgers delirious with delight, but chary of the outcome, while the Illini We’re determined TO turn the tables in the sec ond half. The second half, however, except fola brief interval when Hodge carried the oval across the cardinal goal amid the wild cheers of the orange and blue partisans, was tame. But for Hodges feat there was nothing doing for the Illini. for the Badgers managed to keer the ball almost wholly in Illini terri. tory. Soon after the KICKOFF Messmer add ed four more points to Rogers six By a clever place kick from an easy poin of vantage fronting the local goa
