In the second half, ColoIaoo threw three separate and distinct cntlla into WaShburn by its three trials 1or field goals, each one of which was comparatively easy, and looked a. though It COui0nL De 4liSSGU- Anu a Colorado had had {. kicker ike CalSyI / there would be a different story 70 tell. Reduced to actual figures. the game Is as much Of a standon as the score of to would indicate Coioraoo gained ~ yards more than Wasnburn by straight football from the line oI 1 scrimmage, but Washburn gained A yards more than Colorado in returning T punts, kickoffs and place kicks. At the same time. the expectations Of / Colorado that 1t would batter the Washburn line to pieces on ofense. and gain big distances by line bucking’ were also shattered The Washourn / line stopped the Colorado backs Win | considerable regularity, and the Colo rado end runs we’re an utter failure. I FJauzhey and johnson on the WASH 1 burn ends, did magnificent work The forward pass, as a weapon OF / In the face OF swift, aggressive foothail such. as was played by both teams ! on Saturday, the forward pass IS SIN / ply a polite method OF presenting lile oDposirlR team with the ball. Colorado / plaved the pass five times, and lost the / bali each time, though the play always gained about 10 yards. Wasnourh ( tried the pass four times ana lost Sne / hall twice One other efLort gained yards. and another lost 5 yards. The forward pass is at best a gamble against odds Washburn had the Colorado team going IN spite Of the fact that the 4 Mountafneers had put IN q new set OF backs to finish the game The big men IN the Colorado line were PLAINLY SNOW ing signs of exhaustion, and had the game continued 10 minutes longer the / chances would have been favorable % a score for Washburn- Trudgian’s punts lacked steam toward the ena OF the game, and Williams. who was punting for Washburn, was gaining on every exchange. Just before the halt closed, the Washburn linesmen ripped open the Colorado line ana Diockea Trudeian’s punt on the Colorado 80 ward line. Another punt by Washburn, and the Colorado goal would have been in danger Tor the second time during the game But time was called with the ball still on the Colo rado 40 yard line. Dur / ing most of the first half Colorado was / on the defensive, but Trudgian was out puntinz Williams by many yards By / the exchange OF punts, Colorado worked / the ball into Washburn territory toward / the end Of the half. one of the most brilliant plays Of the / game was when Williams caught the ! He WIS tackled hard. and dropped the ball Colorado / then played its best game Of the day, / and battered q trail down the field for a distance of 81 yards without losing the ball Then came the three tries for field goals, before Washburn could get the [ ball back to comfortable distance 1 from its goal line Shortly before the | close of the half Moore caught a quar- | terback a.ick from a quick line up, be- fore the Washburn team knew what was going on. and carried It IS yards. The tacklfng Of the Washburn team was on the whole not as good as that Of ! Colorado. Washburn was faster IN get | ting into the play, but not so sure on tackles after 1t got there If there is one thing which was con- | spicuous in the Colorado team this year, / It is the absence Of Galley, last seasons / ful1back- There is no one In the team / who can C lpare with that wonderful / PLAYER either in 4ackling or kicking | and the effective work Of the team is diminished % per cent by his absence Aside from Galley the team is as strong / as the one which represented Colorado I last year, and beat Washburn 30 10 | at Boulder, Colo The weather was responsible for a shortage in the attendance It was
