But Chicago always braced when stand was vital. The game during the first half was a hard struggle, with the honors perhaps little in favor of Purdue, as the Indiana backs tore through the holes made for them in Chicago’s line for first downs time and again. Chicago was unable to score a touchdown during the first half but Eckersall stand ing on the forty-four-yard line drop-kicked a goal squarely over the center of the bar. Following this score, one of the prettiest struggles ever seen on Marshall Field took place Chicago, determined to test the work for the distance on third down. although the ball was well into Chicago territory As a result the ball went to Purdue on downs three times between Chicagos twenty-five and forty-yard lines. In the second half Chicago started in to use revolving mass on tackle, and the Purdue linemen were unable to stop the onslaught From the center of the field Chicago car ried the ball straight to Purdues goal line, Bezdek going over for a touchdown Parry kicking goal. Shortly afterward Eckersau drop-kicked another goal from the seven teen-yard line, and then Detray made the final score by getting around Purdues left end for fifty-six yards and a touchdown, but Parry failed to goal. Purdue tried desperately for a touchdown after this, but was never able to get within the danger line. Chicago started the game with one sub In the back field, and in the second half tried out several more subs. Much time was taken out in the second half on account of minor injuries to players, and it was almost dark when the referees whistle blew for the end of the game.
