Lincoln, Neb., Nov. 25.-NebraSka university triumphed over Illinois in the final football clash of the season, the CornhuSkerS emerging victorious by a score of 16 to 10. Eight thou sand persons, the greatest aSsemblage of football enthusiasts that ever gath cred on Nebraska field, witnessed the struggle. which was the most fiercely contested that either eleven had engagged in this year. Illinois fairly out played the CornhuskerS in the first half and looked all the world like a winner, but the Nebraskans bent to their task in the final half and both outgenera1ed and Outplayed the Illinois team, the laurels going honestly to the better team. The contest was repIete with start ling football, the many sensational plays stirring the spectators to the point of frenzy. Rothgeb, right end Tor the visitors, and Bender, Ne braska’s quarterback, were the stars OF the game and the performances of each were of the stellar order. Time after time Rothgeb broke around Ne braska’s ends and his work in advancing the ball was RESPONSIBLE for much of the gains registered by the IIlini. Bender’S long SprintS, however, were easily the most thrilling features. TAX ing the ball on his own thirty-yard line, he sped around Rothgeb, lodged or hurdled every tackler that opposed him, and raced eighty yards for Ne braSka’S initial score. again IN the second half he sprint ed full sixty yards and placed the ball on the Illinois ten-yard line from whence the Cornhuskers pierced the Illinois line and scored the third and winning touchdown. 1t was the last appearance for both Bender and Roth geb, or college gridiron, each having served his full collegiate term, and each proved himself a football king Illinois began scoring, after the two teams had battled for TWENTY-FIVE minutes without results. Benedict, Nebraska’s captain, sought to punt while standing behind his goal line. The pass was low and his kick was blocked by Captain Fairweather, of illinois. Lonergan, one of the Hill nois backs, fell on the ball, and scored the touchdown, but Moynihan missed the goal. Bender’s long run followed almost after the kickoff and Nebraska took the lead on Benedict’s safe goal kick. Straight line smashing Melted Nebraska’s second touchdown early in the second half, but Illinois put on steam and worked her way steadily down the field, Rothgeb going over the Nebraska goal after a plunge for ten yards. Bender’s second sensational sprint, followed by a line smash that carried Eager over the goal, finished the scoring and gave the Cornhuskers the victory
