ALABAMA COLORS EASILY DEFEATED Clemson Piles Up a Score of 18 TOO NEITHER TEAM IS IN FORM Wearers Of Crimson and White Make a Poor Showing and Have Lots Of Room for Improvement. Clemson Also Weak. NEITHER TEAM is IN FORM With a steady stream OF vigor and nerve Clemson ploughed her way through the Alabama line at will and after the first few minutes of play 1t was seen that the sturdy South Carollnians had a walkover In yesterdays struggle for football supremacy at West End. The score resulted Clemson IS; Alabama 0. 1t would have been larger had not the halves been cut so short. Not once during the contest did the crimson clad athletes have a chance and it can not be said that their showing was not disappointing to those who had gath cred to urge on the colors of their ma tive state. The two teams were about evenly matched in weight but Alabama lacked in aggressiveness on the offensive and showed little resistance on the defensive. Alabamas team Is not nearly SO strong as that of year ago. Clemson made many bungles and left frequent openings that would have slaughtered their chances but Alabama took no heed of these many opportunities and practically allowed the South Carolinians to do as they pleased. No New Plays. No new plays were sprung by either side that were successful enough to at tract the attention of the onlookers, among whom were many men of football experience. Just to be plain about 1t Ala bama has got to show a vast improve ment to expect any laurels this fall. The men played listless yesterday and with the exception of one or two men they gave a weak exhibition of tackling. Time and time again the Alabamians went after their opponents around the neck and shoulders and let them slip by with SEEM ing ease. Wyatt made two or three beau tiful tackles after the other men In the line had missed the man with the ball but aside from this the game lacked in brilliancy and spunk Alabama does not show that fierceness in charging that characterizes good work. The tackles allowed many opportunities to pass without breaking into the Interference. Coach Blount saw the weakness of his team and gave the men a strong curtain lecture between the halves. In justice 20 Alabama 1t must be said that they are shy two of their best men, and that yes terdays struggle was their second game. They will have to do some hard work to get in trim, and 1t Is unfortunate that they should have been called upon to play so early before their old admirers. The defeat will give them a good lesson, and the boys from Tuscaloosa should profit immensely by the misplays of yes terday. Clemson Also Crude. Now as to Clemson The South Carolinians are also weak and play with a painful crudeness Their plays are worked slowly and frequent hobbies showed them not to be in proper shape for a hard contest Had they been as strong as last year. they could easily have doubled the score of yesterday. These early games should not be taken as a forerunner of future events as the men are liable to show great reversal OF form before their next appearance in Birmingham. nj. 4rN1I

CLEMSON WON HANDILY. Alabama Unable to Score Against Caro- lima Team. Birmingham Oct. S.--t~pecial)-By straight, ld-fashioned football, con sisting principally of line .rushes, Clemson easily defeated the University of Alabama at West End Park this af- ternoon by a score of IS to O. During the first half the crimson and white players held their own with wonderful grit and 1t was only within two min utes of the end of the play that the Tiger left tackle. Derrick, plunged through the line for ten yards and a score. Holland kicked an easy goal, making the score to in favor of the South Carolina boys. Tn the second half the superiority of the Clemson team was plainly shown The Tuscaloosa men. though fighting gamely, were rushed off their feet by powerful center formations. Captain Holland, full back for Clemson had the honor of the second touch down. which was gained after a series of plugging line play. An easy goal followed. A few moments before time was called Fortick. the Tiger right half final score of the game. Although kicked from a difficult angle by Hol- land, the ball flew straight over the goal posts. The scoring would have been heavier had It not been for the excellent work of Tuscaloosa’s start quarterback. Captain Wyatt. Time and again he was the only man between the Clemson runner and the goal. He never missed a tackle. The Clemson team leaves tomorrow morning for South Carolina, where they are sched- uled to play Auburn on next Saturday. Tuscaloosa returnued home tonight.
