  MICHIGAN “sUB” BACKS USED Wolverines Score AZ on Oberlin With q Patched-up Team. Ann Arbor, Mich, Nov. 23.-Michigan dropped the curtain on the 1908 college football season in Ann Arbor Saturday with g game against Oberlin college, which was won by a, score Of AZ to 0. Coach Stage and Assistant Coach Koehler were interested spec tators in the grand stand, in order to get a line on the wolverine style Of play, but Yost did not use any of his new plays which he intends to employ against Chicago. Only straight bucks, cross bucks, a couple Of quarterback runs, end runs and two trials from the field were tried. In fact, it was elementary foot ball formations that Michigan used a month ago. Curtis played q, much better game at tackle than did Maddox and the freshman is developing every day. Wolf, the Hyde Parker, made his initial bow, and except for nervousness in catching punts did good work. Tom Hammond took two tries at field goals and missed both. One was from the twenty-e ight-yard line and the other was from the forty-yard | line.
