The money

The Independence Bowl was put on by the Independence Bowl Foundation, a nonprofit. Its IRS Form 990 for the year to February 2025, which takes in this game, reports $3.8 million in revenue, $1.4 million of it from bowl revenue, and $3.5 million in expenses. Its best-paid, executive director Missy Setters, was paid $135,000.

From the organization’s IRS Form 990, via ProPublica Nonprofit Explorer and the IRS’s e-file data. Payments are the grants it lists on Schedule I of that return. See every filing at ProPublica (EIN 72-0927228).
