PENNSYLVANIA WAS OUTPLAYED HarVard’s Goal Line Was Never in Danger. FUMBLES WERE FREQUENT ZILLIGA1TS NAME DOES NOT AP- PEAR IN TIE LINEUP. fUBBLES WERE FREQUENT Philadelphia, Nov. Harvard today Z defeated the University of Pennsylva- MIA ia their annual football game, II 70 TO- Pennsylvania scored one touch down IN the first and one in the second halves, while Harvard scored twice in the opening half and once IN the final half PennsyIvania was outplayed at eli points The score does not show the marked superiority OF the Harvard eleven. Only twice during the entire same were the Quakers able to hold the crimson eleven for downs. Penn sylvania’s defense was very weak. while the offeRse was smashed 10 / pieces by the heavy crimson forwards before the plays would get fairly I’M der way. Eliminating the fumbles of Carl Marshall, the red and blue would never have been within striking dis I tance Of the Harvard goal while the I latter’s total would have been at ! least 30. ( Ii was a beautiful day for football and every seat in the great grand stand was taken. There was strong wind from the northwest when play / began. HARVARD STOCK GOES UP. victory Over Penn Encourages Be lief That Yale Will Have to Work. Boston, Nov. 12.-Harvard stock has taken an immense jump because of the victory IN Philadelphia, and some of the more enthusiastic supporters of the crimson are rash enough to say she will play Yale to a standstiQ But the more sober Harvard men see in the victory over pennsylvania only welcome return OF something like the old-time Harward fighting spirit which has been wanting this season. The game next Saturday against Dartmouth will really be more decisive as an indication of what Harvard can 90 against Yale than many have thought. Dartmouth has the heaviest team IN the east. and that it can play superior football is evident. If Harvard can down the Hanover men Saturday by a decisive score, there will be much hope for creditable showing against Yale the following Saturday. No sane expert will venture the opin- ION that Harvard can possibly defeat the veteran Els but the loss of the game by small score will be grateful to the Cambridge rooters. Harvard’s victory over Pennsylvania was largely due to a secret change in the lineup made last week With Cloth Ter at right end and Parkinson at center the line played so much better than heretofore. that the wisdom of the coaches in making what seemed to be a doubtful Shift was amply justified. 4nere is promise that other shifts Will be tried until the best possible combinaton is hit upon. Most encoura cement however, is in the return of something like real Harvard spirit. Yale’s score of 80 to 0 against SYRIA cuse is ominous. for it was a substitute team that did this heavy scoring with ease. Yale has taken no backward steI from the beginning of the season, and gets stronger every day. Princeton { small score against Lafayette looks suspiciousIy like an attempt to create q feeling of overconfidence in New Haven
