  BEATEN BY ONE POINT PROTEST MADE BY ILLINOIS AGAINST DARBY’s DECISION. Northwestern Tried for Goal at n Diff Making the Score IL to IL. Special to the indianapolis Journal. Special to the indianapolis Journal. URBANA, ILL.,, Oct. S1.-By the scant margin of one point Northwestern triumphed over Illinois this afternoon. North western II, Illinois IL. was the result, but in the Illinois camp tonight the declaration is made that a wrongful decision on a goal from touchdown by Referee Darby lost the game for the orange and blue. The teams were evenly matched and the contest was considerable of a see-saw. ILL., nois was the first to score. Null made a pretty place kick from the twenty-yard line. The Methodsts quickly recovered and rushed the ball down the field. puncturing the State line until Cotton went over. The first half ended: Northwestern, 6; Illinois. 5. The Illinois started out the second half with rush and played brilliant football The quarter back kick and fake place kick netted large gains and Fairweather went over. Rothgeb kicked goal and the score was: Illinois, IL; Northwestern, 20. 1t was NorthweStern’s turn to rally and the purple made big inroads on Illinois. Captain Gleager and his comrades could not be stopped and again Cotton crossed the ILL nois goal after the State team had made a gallant stand. Cotton kicked goal from a difficult angle.
