Jim Camp thought his George Washington football team would beat Furman by two touchdowns Saturday, and II someone had told him before hand that CIV would gain 22l yards on passing alone he might have expanded the estimate. The aerial yardage-210 on the arm of Merv Holland-was nice to put in the archives but 1t was too little and too late to avert Furman’s 29–14 VIC tory. There were several over riding factors, not the least OF which was the weather. The long range forecast called for rain in Greenville S. c., late Saturday. But 1t began at l am. and 2 inches of rain soaked the area before the opening kickoff. The Colonials had planned to use a lot Of wide plays quick pitchouts to Dick Drum mond, and the like-but the trickery had to be scratched Drummond finished with no gain in four carries. Also, two quick fumbles by CIV set in motion touchdown marches by the Paladins and they took a l4–0 lead with the game less than one-eighth COM .pleted. Another fumble-that’s S what they called it when Harry Haught threw a lateral to Fur mans Doug Shaw-stopped a potential CIV scoring drive on the 20-yard line. However, the most damaging factor, and the most distress ing to Camp, was the almost total collapse of the CIV line
