PROTEST FILED BY CINCINNATI ClNC1NNA11, OCC. 20 NA1 Chuck Studley, head football coach at the University OF Gin cinnati says he formally has protested an officials call that may have cost his team q chance to tie the game with North Texas State last week end. The Bearcats lost, 14-S. Studley said the protest to the Missouri Valley Conference headquarters involved a dis puted call in the last period when Cincinnati was trailing 14–8. The call came on a 7-yard pass from Quarterback Don Thomas to End Jim Curry in the North Texas end zone. Curry appeared to catch the ball with his hands high, brought his hands down and then was hit by two Eagle detenders and dropped the ball. Field judge Jack Miller OF Wichita signaled a touchdown as Curry caught the ball, but the head linesman signaled an incomplete pass. The referee, noting the linesman’s call, also signaled incomplete” Studley went out on the field to ask Miller why he had not told the referee of his touch down call. The referee saw the Cincinnati coach on the field and handed Cincinnati a 15yard penalty. The touchdown would have tied the score and Studley said yesterday that films Of the game bore out his version Of the incident. “If the man catches the foot ball and pulls it in, it’s a touch down no matter what happens after he is hit” the eBearcatS coach said.
