ANNAPOLIS, Sept. % Against Navy here Saturday, Coach Milt brewer wants both his william & Mary football team and the weather to play it cool. The Indians are going to be something like 21-point under dogs against the Middies, but brewer, forever hopeful, figures there is a chance if his sophomoreS remain cool and if the weather turns cooler. Wayne Hardin, the Navy coach, is prepared to take things as they come. The Middies’ only problem this week appears to be largely mental, but Hardin doesn’t seem overly concerned. He figures his club will be hungry enough. “We haven’t won a ball game yet” he explains simply. Lost Nine Straight brewer says he is praying for lower temperatures because his first unit, with little behind it, will have to play most of the way. AS brewer puts it, Virginia last week Just wore down his club in 90-degree weather for a 21–6 triumph. The week before, his Sophs flustered momentarily and Virginia Tech came from behind with three touchdownS in less than four minutes for 20–6 conquest. W&M has lost nine straight in carryover string from last year and the trouble, brewer says, is that he doesn’t have enough Indians. I’VE think our first ball club could give people a pretty good game, but we’ve got only six or seven capable reserves” Steve Belichick’s scouting report for Navy adds the ditto After that first team” he says, they’re really hurting y Belichick points out that W&M has threats in alternating quarterbacks Dan Barton ION the roll-out) and Dan Henning Con the pass, plus a first-clasS halfback in Roger Hale, once billed as “the great est Hale since Nathan” The other firSt-unit halfback, Sophomore Charlie Weaver, is injured and will be replaced by another sophomore, Bob Malarkey. Four SOphs to Start All told. W&M figures to start four sophs, including both tackles. The line so far hasn’t provided much running room for the backs. In the Virginia defeat, W&M gained only seven yards net rushing. The lone touchdown came on a pass interception and that may illustrate a serious Indian draw back, the lack of an offensive wallop. They’ve scored only four touchdowns in that nine game losing streak. Saturdays game. the Middies homecoming affair, will honor
