Penn State Nips Holy Cross on 2d.Ha|f Rally WORCESTER, Mass, Nov. 16 R.-Penn State stopped Holy Cross six inches from its goal and took a precautionary safety in the final two minutes today that preserved a 14–10 come back victory. The Nittany Lions as a result won Gator Bowl consideration. Left Tackle Bill Wehmer and Left End Les Walters dropped Tommy Greene, the Nations offense leader, inches from an upset with two minutes to play. Richie Lucas, Penn State quarterback, then stepped out of his end zone for an auto matte safety rather than try to punt into the teeth of an on rushing Crusader line. The twice-beaten Pennsylvanians rallied behind Dave Kasperian’s 67-yard kickoff return and erased an 80 deficit with two quick third-period touchdowns. The touchdowns came on a 16-yard pass from Lucas to Walters at 1877 and Lucas one-yard plunge at 1924 after Center Charles Ruslavage recovered a Holy Cross kickoff tumble at the Crusader IL. Greene passed to End Charles Pacunas on a 78-yard scoring pass play on the second scrimmage play of the third period. Kasperian promptly returned the kickoff from his 10 to the Crusader % and in two plays the Nittany Lions scored. Holy Cross got two points in the second period when a bad pass from center sailed over Lucas head and out of the end zone.
