S.-The Am herst football team, which was defeated. % to o, by Yale, held Harvard down to 6 points to-day, and much of the m SEEM ingly outplayed the Crimson eleven. In the middle of the second half Harvard pushed the ball to Amherst’s eight-yard line, where Lindsay was sent through for the only touchdown Of the game. Barnard kicked an easy goal. Twice Harvard was within scoring dis lance, but a tumble or the fine defense of the visitors prevented a touchdown. The interference of the Crimson team was poor ly formed. while the ball started very slow ly and failed to take advantage Of the holes opened up by the linemen. On the other hand, Amherst played a snappy game, forcing Harvard to kick a lumber of times, and, although not getting within the Crimson twenty-five-yard line, Kept Harvard continually on the jump. The game opened very favorapiy Ior Amherst, for after the kick-off Washpurn gained twenty-six yards around Jones’s end and, aided by two center plays, brought the ball to Harvard’s forty-yard line. After another gain of eight yards a ium. BILE gave the ball to Harvard. Amherst was steadily pushed back TO her hfteenyard line, but a tumble by Tenney gave the ball to Amherst. But the visitors could not gain, and hen Marshall tried a goal from the field from Amherst’s twenty yard line, being directly in front of the goal posts. The ball went wide, and the half ended with the ball in Harvard’s pos session on her own thirty-yard line. In the middle of the second half Lindsay took the ball through Amherst’s right tackle eight yards for a touchdown. Bar nard kicked a goal.
